Played well in the first half but we couldn't cope with Altrinchams attack. Cut us open so many times. Ball just didn't fall for us on the penalty area but you make your own luck. With York beating chesterfield thats us down IMO

Couldn't agree more. Got pushed off the ball all afternoon. Lambert had a really poor game again aswell. However it's a team game. Dont want to single anyone out as that's unfair. I'm afraid that's it now. Only possible win i can see is Eastleigh at home. Today I predicted a 3-1 defeat and I'm so sorry I was correct. Anyway will try and keep the faith until its mathmaticly impossible but I'm a realist. Just been looking at who we will be playing in the NLN next season):Bewdleyharrier wrote: ↑Fri Mar 29, 2024 4:58 pmZak Brown getting MOTM is a poorer decision than sticking with Penn for as long as we did

I read a post on FB from the Oldham Groundhopper bemoaning his team haven’t been promoted since 1991 and saying, outside of the PL, his team have gone the longest without anything to celebrate out of all the national/professional clubs. I would say we’re not far behind in terms of lack of notable achievements. Someone mentioned the year 2005, and I would say apart from the fortuitous promotion last season, the odd ‘nearly’ season and the odd cup scalp, the last 20 years have been nowhere near good enough for me. Sorry to be blunt, but it’s also the truth.

Virtually played the entire season without a midfield and when Brown is now our main midfielder (and only a National North squad filler at that) it says it all. Time to get new manager sorted ASAP and planning for the slog of the North. What an opportunity wasted.

Chickens home to roost.
Well done to Alty. A model to follow.
Some massive decisions in the next month or so.
Who’s going to be the new manager?
Who’s under contract for next season?
We played well but then they scored and we folded.
No midfield whatsoever. Weston did ok but a lot to ask for such a young lad on loan.
Again, attacking wise it was poor. Story of the season.
Depressing stuff.

Re: MotM: 29-03-24 Altrincham (H)
The half time team talk must have been useless, as we were terrible 2nd half and never looked like scoring.
Main tactic was just a long punt up to the right wing for Amari (who gave his all as usual). JET was superb in the first half but inevitably tired badly. Surprised PB didn't make earlier subs, although to be fair they made virtually no impact when they did get on.
Alty looked miles better after they equalised and put on a Gateshead-like performance keeping the ball. They could easily have had another 2 or 3 goals and sliced through our midfield at will.

Depressing isn't it. Some real deadbeat grounds - bad enough on a sunny Saturday afternoon let alone a cold Tuesday night

That's what makes this so depressing - our fortuitous promotion last season was one of our few league highlights since 2005, and in the blink of an eye, we've undone all that progress. Having said that, we were never properly equipped to compete in the NL this year, for reasons mentioned above.
Time to do some serious planning for NLN, (hopefully PB will help us with his contacts book), and we can bounce straight back up. And next time we'll hopefully be more prepared for a campaign in the NL. That's the plan anyway!

Doldrums of the NN ain’t half depressing but it’s a chance to rebuild with some of the squd aging and probably on a few quid.
Think gold and ox are on deals beyond the summer as is mcnally. Ideally the first two of those three are moved on. Useless

My reflection on the game.
Thought the ref was excellent.
Altrincham just better in every area .

Happy to keep Lambert, McNally and Richards.
Not keen on keeping Omotayo and Oxlade Chamberlaine, but who will take them off our hands?
Aside from that, maybe we should make a clean start in NLN and have a clear out. Morgan Smith and Hemmings have been superb servants to us, but they're getting quite long in the tooth.
If we could get JET fitter he'd be a cut above in NLN.
