How things have changed

Post by PIRATE OF ZARAGOZA » Sun Jul 19, 2020 2:06 pm

I came across this photo online today, the photo is from 1974, the cycling track went in 1989 when the north and south terraces were built. Looks like they are doing the footings of the Social club in the corner.

Oh those wonderful memories of my original seating position in that institution called the 'cow shed'. Wooden seating, what more do you need at a footy match.

Yes i remember sitting on the wall at top end of the cow shed shoting at the likes of the Wassall's, Paddy Lynch , Martin Lander , Dennis Isherwood and the likes. It looka like the photo is taken not long after we had the gales that ripped part of the cowshed roof off.

Great photo - I remember going to college and walking past the wrought iron fencing along Hoo Road which you can just see in the picture - what is the white building in the top left corner - don't remember that?

Didn't Murdoch's burger van (Westler's 30p) used to sit on top of the bank in the same area as the white building? The white building appears to have a canopy - like you would have on a snack bar??

Mind you, if it was 1974, I'd probably have been in a pram, so Phil's memories will be more accurate!

Does anyone remember Clock-It tickets? You bought a ticket from someone by the main stand which had a time in minutes (maybe and seconds?). If the time of the first goal matched your ticket, you won. You might have had a player number on the ticket as well...e.g. Player 5 in 29th minute. No idea
what the prize was, as I never won. But, looking back, you were not likely to.

I've googled Clock-It but can't find anything.
