| But only if we get rid of others. So the squad is going to be thin.... |

That's fair enough Burr knew he had to work within a tight budget, but more more to the point I think he realises that the squad MY had assembled had a core of decent players ( 5/6 ) but lacked depth, I also think he recognises that his midfielders are not skilled or competent on the ball to play the style of football he wants, - Bennett - Knights - Smikle - (even) McPhee are players he will look to replace over time - perhaps converting McPhee to a striker.
I would be surprised if any of the other above named are here next season. |

McPhee is a striker who has been converted into a midfielder (and defender!)
Unfortunately I do think Knights, Bennett and maybe McDermott will be on their bikes in the summer or sooner. Hopefully Smikle can fit in with the Burr system, on the wing. The same could be said about D McD but I get the impression he doesn't like being a wide man and would rather play central in which case there is no room at the inn. I think McPhee will continue in CM unless someone buys him in the summer. |

I dont see why Smikle couldnt fit into the Burr system. He's played left wing for us and with Lord K saying that Goodfellow and his team mate at Burton liking to alternate wings, I think Smikle could be the perfect bloke on the other wing if they did the same here. _________________

| SMikle started the season really strongly but has faded since. I really "nice bloke" sort of player but maybe we should be trying to improve on the likes of him? |

Made a good effort today, final ball wasn't there though. _________________ Optimism is overrated. |

| One goal in 10 games isn't really a good enough return for a squad that is so short on striking options, although his overall contribution has probably been better than that stat suggests. But at the end of the day, goals is what strikers are rated by. |

Which is why Heskey for England/Villa is so disliked and underrated.
I cant really see why we've extended his loan for a whole 17 days. Why not get a new striker in on loan for that period of time and then test and see who/which was better? I don't think the big, lumbering frame of Spencer really lends himself to the passing game that we seem to be trying to build up at the moment. Decent for us so far though overall, got better over time. Not really a fantastic striker though. _________________ Bring the Brit Back!!!!!!

Unless you are Justin Richards . With regards to Spencer he's not pretty but from what I've seen is a similar yet more effective player than Matthews, of course Matthews season hasn't really got going with us so I'd expect him to get better with a decent run in the team. _________________ the conference's finest |

Beggars can't necassarily be choosers. "Get in a better striker" yeah, I bet Steve Burr hasn't thought of that! Which clubs in the BSQ or League 2 are going to let us have a quality striker at this stage of the season? Unless we can get a big club to give us a starlet we might have to make do.
Spencer did alright when he came on against Oxford. Matthews didn't look interested last night.
We do need a better strikeforce - hopefully Burr is on the lookout. |
