Birdie flies the nest

Fan's favourite, Tony Bird, has announced that he wants to leave the club.

He went to see caretaker manager Ian Britton this week to tell him that he thought it would be for the best if he left.

Birdie's contract was up for renewal during the close season but he has now decided to seek his fortune elsewhere.

He has said that he will now move back down to South Wales in order resurrect his career.

There are seven other players out of contract soon, Scott Stamps, Richie Appleby, Ian Foster, Ian Clarkson, John Danby, Ben Davies and Peter Faulds.

Scott has already been offered a place at Cheltenham and he is thought to be considering this at the moment.
Richie has stated that he would stay if Britton was confirmed as manager but if he isn't ?

The two Ian's will probably be offered new contracts and both will most likely accept them.

That leaves the other three of which Danby is the only one guaranteed to be staying.
The club have to cut the playing staff and so the obvious solution is to start with Davies and Faulds in an effort to save money.
