Barney follows Jan out of the door

Gary Barnett, assistant manager to Jan Molby, has now announced that he too is leaving the club by mutual consent with immediate effect.

According to the official website Gary said:
"It’s obviously a very sad day for me but in light of Jan Molby’s resignation I feel it is in the best interests of both the club and myself to do likewise.

I have had three fantastic years here, better than I ever could have imagined, and I will miss everybody connected with the club.
The players, directors, staff and supporters have been fantastic and I hope the club goes on from strength to strength."

Barnett was bought here by Jan back in July 1999 after taking Barry Town into the European Champions League where they lost to the eventual semi-finalists, Dynamo Kiev.

It was thought that he was being groomed to take over from Jan when he did eventually leave to take over at another club but not to leave when Jan did.

This is obviously a big blow for a club that has now seen it's heart ripped out in all this.

Where do we go from here? Well there is an outside chance of Jan being penalised for breach of contract but only if he joins Hull City over Easter.
Barnett was almost out of contract anyway so there would be no point in following that avenue.

Ian Britton, the youth team manager, has taken over along with Ian Clarkson until the end of the season but this will only be temporary until if and when we can appoint a new manager.
