  • Dean Bennett signs new contract

Dean Bennett has finally signed a new 2½ yr contract for the club after fears that he may have been about to leave the club for pastures new.

Rumours had been going round all week that he may have been about to sign for struggling Bristol Rovers.
That was just a load of poppycock put about by someone who should have been in school and not partaking in under age drinking in the Harriers Arms.

After being on the transfer list for so long now it's obvious that Jan has been impressed with Deano's attitude and workrate and given him this boost in confidence that he deserved after scoring in his all last four games and helping us to climb the table in such spectacular fashion.

After all, when Jan accepted the Manager of the Month trophy the other day he couldn't very well say that it was all down to the team and then get rid of the one player who scored most of the goals that helped him get the trophy.

Jan said to the official website after the announcement:
"'Benno' has done very well lately.
He wasn't doing himself justice earlier this year but to be fair to him he has taken that criticism on board and is now making good progress in the right direction.

His contract was due to expire at the end of the season and I felt it was important we keep players like him.
He is still young enough to improve and is the type of player we can build the team around for the future.

This new deal is a reward for the improvement he has shown."

As for the future of the other players whose contracts are about to expire Jan would not say anything.

These are Stuart Brock, Brendan Murphy, Parfait Medou-Otye, Scott Stamps, Paul Webb, Ian Foster, Ian Clarkson, Mark Shail, Peter Faulds, Ben Davies, Tony Bird and Stewart Hadley.

I think of those eight will stay and four won't.
