After all the fuss last Monday it will be a relief to get back to playing football and not apologising to Hull City fans about Tony Birds over excitement.

There's no doubt now though that Birdie has got the bit between his teeth and that he aims to make up for last seasons disappointment when he struggled to break into the team.

Now, along with Stuart Brock, he must be the first name that Jan puts on the teamsheet.
With four goals to his credit he also looks like the only one at the club capable of scoring.

So that's two playing tomorrow, what about the others?

Well Lee Ayres is definitely out for at least 3 months after breaking his toe at Hull.
His toe was so badly broken that it was almost severed !

Scott Stamps is doubtful after injuring his ankle in the same game but this looks more like heavy bruising and so does Ian Fosters ankle, also in the same game.

As to who is going to replace Ayres then it looks like a recall for Ian Clarkson because Parfy now starts his three match ban and won't be available until the Shrewsbury game on the 18th Sept.

It looks like being a different game tomorrow from the same fixture last season when Mansfield were so poor that it was amazing that we only won 1-0 through a John Durnin goal.

Although last season Mansfield started strongly with a hat full of goals from Chris Greenacre they faded badly towards mid term and if it wasn't for a late rally they could have been facing relegation.

This term Mansfield have again started with a flourish and now it's Craig Disley who's getting the goals.
Now we face them a bit earlier, lets hope their good run ends tomorrow.
