Are the club, and new manager Ian Britton, about to get egg all over their face?
For the past week now we have been told about the imminent arrival of a new midfielder at Aggborough. The deal has been finalised with the new player about to put pen to paper. Wait till next Monday and all will be revealed. It's been in the local press too so now every Harriers fan will be expecting some good news.
The reason for not telling us more is because said new player is still under contract at his present club until June 30th and rather than creating a situation similar to the Hull City/Richie Appleby fiasco the club want to keep it all quiet until Monday morning (July 1st).
He fits the criteria laid down by Ian Britton perfectly. Left sided midfielder. Was his club captain. Played in both 3rd and 2nd divisions. Locally born, he started his career locally at Shrewsbury and then Telford. Has turned down a one year extension to his contract to drop down a level and sign a two year one with us.
The egg on face bit comes from the fact that Chesterfield fans have been talking all week about this player joining us and what a good signing he would be for us.
Now, almost at the very last minute in step Wrexham, the birthplace of our subject. They are also stringing out the same line, locally born, played locally, left sided midfielder. He also plays for a second division side and has turned down a one year contract to sign a two year one for them.
Sounds similar. Guess where he'll end up. Egg on face scenario? You got it.
