Return of the Man

Since the news broke late last night about the dismissal of Ian Britton we have all been Waiting For The Man (lyric courtesy of Cale & Reed).

This morning I wrote a short? article about Jan Molby's possible return and now just a few hours later I'm writing to confirm that he's back and hopefully raring to go.

The news was released at 3:00 this afternoon by Colin Youngjohns who had this to say on the matter:
"When we made the decision to change the manager we had to look at who was best equipped to make an immediate impact.  Whatever anybody says Jan did a terrific job during his first stint here.

Had we brought a new man in it would have taken them time to adjust and who's to say he would have succeeded?  Jan knows the club and many of the players better than most people and we have every confidence in him to turn things back around as soon as possible."

Tell that to the likes of Stuart Brock and Dean Bennett who Jan did his best to break and Sam Shilton who was bought in by Jan and then almost as quickly dropped.  Then again it's not that much different to the treatment of Matt Gadsby by Ian Britton.

Molby has come back to the club as Director of Football, a role that means that he'll need an assistant on the ground to help him, so he's bought along Gary Barnett with him.  Barnett was always popular with the players and the fans so we may have to get used to him being the one at the side of the pitch on a matchday while Jan chinwags with the directors up in the box.  At least he'll be safe from referees there.

It will also mean that as a director Jan will be putting money into the club.  Add to that the money that will hopefully be forthcoming from Lionel Newton, if he comes back on board, then we should be able to spend a little bit of cash in our quest for safety from the drop into the Conference.

Molby's, and Gary's, first game in charge will be at Northampton on Tuesday evening.

Just one thing Jan.  Please don't go to Hull City and bring Richie Appleby back from his sickbed.  We want only fit players here.
