Danny stays but Drewe's about to leg it

Danny Williams With today's expected news that Danny Williams has decided to stay at Aggborough for one more season comes the bombshell that Drewe Broughton is in talks with perennial has beens, Southend Utd.

With Danny it was a case of nobody else wanting him enough to pay the small transfer fee that he would have commanded.  Sensible really with so many players of equal ability available for free at the moment.

He has had some interest from other clubs, Hull City, Hartlepool and Oxford Utd being the main ones.  Even some from non-league Chester City but that one was a bit of a non-starter.

Danny has now decided to stay for one more season in the hope of making a bigger impression on other clubs and get himself a free transfer at the end of it.  Ian Britton did try to get him to sign for two years but Danny wasn't interested.

The fact that Drewe is in talks with Southend is a surprise because he seemed quite settled at the Harriers, although he did get a bit of stick off some fans and also some websites.

Drewe Broughton It doesn't seem to be a career move for him because Southend are not exactly a team on the up, are they?

Where he will fit in at Southend is another question because they already have a recognised striker in Tes Bramble.  He has just signed a new contract with them.

Another question is going to be Drewes value.  He has one more year remaining on his contract and in normal circumstances should warrant a fee but in the present climate I would think that all they need do is pay off his contract.  How much that's worth is subjective because Drewe was reported to be on around £900 a week.

His leaving looks like a money saving decision then!
