Reds throw 3 points away

The Harriers threw away all 3 points today when they allowed probably the worst team that we have played this season to come back from 1-0 down and grab a point in almost the last minute of the game.

In lovely sunny conditions we kicked off with Adie Smith in place of the suspended Adam Willis and new boys Adam Murray, Lloyd Dyer and Robert Betts taking their place in the starting lineup.

After a tenuous start with both teams looking very nervous the Harriers better passing skills soon started to come to the fore.  Our new look midfield started to take control and pass the ball around sweetly and keeping possession until after 15 minutes there was only one team in it.  Macclesfield had faded badly and looked like a team in serious danger of being relegated.

It was two of the new boys that combined to set up our first attempt on goal when Adam Murray passed the ball along the ground to Lloyd Dyer but, to shouts of derision from the Macc fans, he sliced the ball well wide of the goal

It was Dyer again who, from a Danny Williams free kick, forced the Macclesfield keeper Boaz Myhill into a good save.

Danny Williams found himself in the book early on when he was judged to have fouled a Macc player but it looked more like the player tripping over Danny's outstretched leg.

Then came the first heart stopping moment when Andy Bishops fierce header hit the bar and rebounded back into play.  Luckily for Macc when Andy was about to strike the ball equally as hard he was ruled offside.

Macclesfield were well and truly on the back foot now and finding it hard to get any thing going at all.  If we had been a bit more decisive in our football we would have had the points in the bag by now.

Five minutes before the close of the first half we had those points when, from a Robert Betts lay off, Danny sent the ball into the net via the base of the post.  It was no more than we deserved and no more than Macc deserved either.

HT. 0 - 1

The second half started with the best period for Macclesfield so far.  Boosted by the introduction of Colin Little they went out looking for the equaliser.

Eventually though we regained control of the game but it was upfront where things seemed to be going wrong again.  In the first half we looked a bit shot shy but this worsened in this half with players lining up around the edge of the box to shoot but none of them seeming able to pull the trigger.

We could see the scenario forming before our eyes that the longer the game went on the more precarious our lead was going to be.  Bo went close just before he was taken off to be replaced by John Williams but the biggest groan of the day, biggest two groans, came when first Robert Betts shot weakly straight at the Macclesfield keeper and then Sean Flynn, on for Murray, did the same two minutes later.

It was obvious how this was going to end.  In tears.

With the seconds ticking down Stuart Brock, who had been outstanding all game, was spotted slightly off his line by Colin Little.  Little lobbed the ball over his head and into the net to finally wake up what was left of the Macclesfield fans.

It was a gut wrenching moment for the Harriers faithful and probably even more so for the players out there.  The answer is in their hands though.

They played well enough to have won this game by a cricket score but until they get their shooting boots back out of the cupboard then we're destined to struggle this season.

FT. 1 - 1

Man of the Match is :
Adie Smith

Surprise comeback for Adie and one he made the most of.  it just shows the depth of quality we have in this team now if Adie's destined to play a bit part this season.

Best for them:  You must be joking.  They were awful.
