Best midfielder in the Conference

Richie Appleby, the man who was said by Jan Molby to be the best midfielder in the League is now the best midfielder in the Conference after todays move to struggling Forest Green Rovers.

Richie Appleby In a move that has taken the Harriers fraternity by surprise the club said that Richie had been given a two year contract by the Gloucestershire side and it was an offer that he could not refuse considering he was on a pay as you play situation at Aggborough and with a young family he needs a regular source of income.

Richie originally signed loan terms for the Harriers in November 2001 after leaving his former club Swansea City and scored on his debut for us at Leyton Orient.  He then left to join up with Jan at Hull City when his mentor moved North under auspicious circumstances but he rarely played for them due to a knee injury and eventually he was treated as a pariah by the Hull City fans and left under a cloud.

He came back to Aggborough at the start of this season but was never given a contract to sign.  He's made ten appearances for us this term and scored the penalty that defeated Macclesfield.

This move raises a few questions;
This week someone within the club let slip that money was being made available for new faces but not, it appears, to keep the 'best midfielder' at the club.

Who will now be our creative midfielder?  At times it appeared that Richie was the only one capable of unlocking defences.  Other times he was a yard too slow.

If this move was to release more money then how much will it actually release considering that Apples was only on a 'pay per play' basis.

If the outcome of this is that we now sign McMahon and Langmead on terms then I, as many others, will be very disappointed.  These two, especially McMahon, offer nothing that a fit Richie would.
