Two more in & dubious rumours

Richie Appleby As expected Richie Appleby is back in Jans' gang after training with the Harriers since last Christmas.  He was more or less sacked by his previous club, Hull City, last year after hardly ever making an appearance for them.  Many Hull fans felt that the wool was being pulled over their eyes by Richie after his mentor, Jan, was sacked for the failure of getting them promoted six months before the end of the season.

Richie had a series of leg and knee injuries that somehow failed to clear up but now he seems to have shrugged those off and is now reaching a better fitness level than he has for some time.  Because he is not quite 100% yet Jan Molby has signed him on non-contract terms with a view to a better one once he's proved that he's capable of playing week in, week out.

Micky Mellon Also signing today was Micky Mellon.  He made his debut for us in the 4-3 win over Walsall last Saturday and has now agreed on a two year deal.

This tough playing midfielder appeared for Tranmere last term and was a crowd favourite there.  He has an eye for goal and this was proved when he scored a cracker on Saturday.

Now for the 'dubious rumour'.

This is the one that's been pushed on the Clix to Harriers website in the past few days and refers to Drewe Broughton returning to the club.  It's based purely on sightings of Drewe around town and in training with the team.

Drewe Broughton The official line is that he has a house in Bewdley (true) and he has had some trouble with the tenants and is trying to get them out.  Some onlookers think it's because he wants to move back in himself but I tend to think that he's just looking after his investment.  The house is a desirable part of the area and no one wants to see their assets stripped.

Another factor against this rumour is that the majority of Southend fans that I have been in contact with have dismissed this rumour totally and pointed out that Drewe has played in all their friendlies so far including scoring the first goal in a 3-3 draw against Dagenham on Monday.  He was also at Southends ground, Roots Hall, yesterday for treatment to a foot injury that he picked up during that game.

He's a firm favourite there and isn't given the same kind of stick by Southend fans that he was given by many at Aggborough.  Jan Molby is also still trying to get Iseyden Christie to sign a contract but is thought by the Shuttle to be facing competition from newly promoted Chester City.

If Christie does sign then firstly it'll be the same as Richies, a short non-contract followed by a full one if he proves his fitness.  If that happens then there will be no need, or room, for Drewe.

So, is he coming back?  No, I don't think so.
