Rickards rocks Redditch

The Harriers finished off Redditch in fine form today when they beat the pseudo Brummies 4-1 with a fine brace from Scott Rickards.

It wasn't all one way traffic though because it was our Conference North opponents that took the lead first through a Simon Hollis goal after being played in by Scott Voice.  We responded just three minutes later with a goal from Wayne Hatswell when he headed in from Burtons corner.

Only last night, at the fans forum, was Wayne saying that the gaffer wanted him to get on the scoresheet more often.

The second goal, and first for Rickards, came almost on the half hour when he latched onto a Micky Mellon through ball to slot it under the keeper from an acute angle.

His second, and our third, was a simple chip over the head of the advancing keeper.

United came close to grabbing one back just before half time when a Redditch striker saw his header come back off the post.

After halftime the hot conditions started to get to the players and they lay back a bit to soak up what little pressure there was.  Still they managed to score though and Simon Brown added the fourth and final goal in the fiftieth minute.

Just before the end of the game to everyone's surprise our Assistant Manager, Gary Barnett, made a rare appearance and came within a 'cats whisker' of getting on the scoresheet with a shot that curled just past the post.

One more friendly to come, at Stourport on Monday, and then it's time for the big one at Rushden next Saturday.

Harriers:
Danby, McHale, Burton, Keates, Hatswell, Jenkins, Brown, Mellon, Christiansen (Barnett), Russell (Gleeson), Rickards (Foster).
