Squad numbers released

The club announced the squad numbers for the new season today and there are no real surprises.

Heres the numbers first and we'll discuss them after:

  • 1. Stuart Brock
  • 2. Abdou Sall
  • 3. Scott Stamps
  • 4. Danny Williams
  • 5. Craig Hinton
  • 6. Adie Smith
  • 7. Dean Bennett
  • 8. Sean Parrish
  • 9. Drewe Broughton
  • 10. Ian Foster
  • 11. Sam Shilton
  • 12. Bo Henriksen
  • 13. John Danby
  • 14. Andy Ducros
  • 15. Daire Doyle
  • 16. Lee Ayres
  • 17. Andrew Corbett
  • 18. Ian Joy
  • 19. Matt Lewis
  • 20. Mark Blake
  • As you see the one that sticks out like a sore thumb is poor old Sam Shilton at 11.  To give a first eleven shirt to a player who hardly saw any action last season strikes me as being a bit strange considering Bomber Bo, who could have been in line for the prestigious number 9 only gets the number 12 on his back.

Abdou Sall in at number two?  Now there's another strange one.  Can't see him playing at full back much but I couldn't see him pinching Adie's shirt number either.

Danny Williams gets the shirt that was once worn by one of the all time greats, Paul Webb.  Will he now step into the great mans shoes and be seen as a legend in 10 years time?

Dean Bennett wins back his number 7 shirt after losing it in a fit of pique by Jan in the early part of last season, when he was accused of not trying hard enough and was slapped on the transfer list.  Deano finally won him over and became an integral part of the set up after the New Year and Britt has rewarded him for that with his favourite number.

Finally Mark Blake propping the list up at number 20.  Lets not read too much into that one.  It's as good a number as any other.
