Earlier this week Jan Molby and his assistant, Gary Barnett, both signed contracts that will run until the end of this season.  A short period and a short, sharp answer to those supporters who thought that he'd be leaving after last weeks game against Macclesfield.

The version of the rumour that I heard said that he'd had a big bust up with CY before the game and he would be packing his bags later on that evening, win or lose.

True or not, he's still here so it must have been our excellent second half performance that swayed him.

The gaining of the three points was down to Iyseden Christie and a smattering of good luck for once.  Christie came on and changed the game and we were given a penalty by a ref that didn't know his Cranium from his Maximus Gluteous.  More luck came our way just before that when Macc had totally fluffed their penalty minutes earlier.

That game saw some players coming back from injury.  The aforementioned Christie along with Youssou Diop, Abdou Sall and Dean Keates.

The only ones left now are Micky Mellon and Reuben Hazell.  He's going in for a knee operation soon so Jan is now looking for a fit right sided full back to fill a position that hasn't been filled since Ian Clarkson in 2000.  If he does find one it'll be a 5:00pm signing on Friday night!

Southend are also on the quick lookout for another player after their new keeper, Bart Griemink, was injured recently in the 4-1 win at Rushden.  Manager Steve Tilson is on the lookout for someone to cover for Darryl Flahaven.  As long as he doesn't look at John Danby.

Southend have had a so-so season up till now and sit just three points above us.  The difference, apart from the points, is that they score goals.  Eleven so far with six of those coming from Adam Barrett.

He joined them in close season from Bristol Rovers and for some reason has turned from a run of the mill midfielder into a hot scoring machine.  A bit like Drewe Broughton then.

Now there's an enigma.  Judging by comments from their fans they either love him or hate him.  No change there then.

He's struggled to make the kick off this season and has spent most of his time bench warming.  No change there then.

As well as the Bart man they will be without Jay Smith.  He had an ankle injury last February and is still out of action.

Result?  A win would be nice but that's being very optimistic.  Now if we were to start with Christie it might be a different matter.
