Strong rumours are starting to circulate that following the collapse of the LDV Vans company back in November that the funds set aside for the LDV Trophy games, in which the Harriers progressed to the Northern Semi-final four weeks ago, will not now be paid.
We went out, valiantly, to Carlisle Utd in a single goal defeat and would have expected to pick up £12,000 for going out at that stage - ironically if we were a League club we would have received £15,000 - and also a share of the gate receipts. It looks likely that we'll just get part of the gate now and, if based on a third of the gate of 4400, that will come somewhere near to the £15,000 anyway.
Overall we probably haven't done too badly out of our little run anyway but it would have done us no harm to have had the extra 12K.
As first reported on Ciderspace they surmise that when the final of the LDV Trophy is held in Cardiff at the Millennium Stadium on April 2nd that there is bound to be some embarrassing moments with the Sky broadcasters not knowing what the hell is going on when they have to praise LDV for bringing us this marvelous trophy even though there is no longer a company called LDV.
It makes you wonder if it's worth the Semi Finalists - Carlisle, Macclesfield, Colchester Utd and Swansea City - carrying on with it if they are not going to get any prize money. I hope that all the clubs, Kidderminster Harriers included, affected by this ridiculous state of affairs are in touch with the Football League right now and demanding answers.
