Yet another new player joined the ranks at Aggborough today with the arrival of the former Newcastle Utd reserve team midfield man Jamie McClen.
Now 27yrs old he spent quite a long time at St James Park waiting for his chance to get regular first team football but, apart from 7 starts in 8 years, he never really got a look in and was released in August last year after continuous refusal by Utd to be allowed to go out on loan. He did have a short spell on loan at Motherwell in December 2000 but only made one start then.
Once he did get his release he joined up with Carlisle on a six month contract but again made just one start for them in the LDV Trophy. When that contract ended he went job hunting in Shrewsbury and joined the Shrews for a few weeks before being released again after refusing to re-locate in Sunny Shropshire, preferring instead to try his luck again in the North East.
He then joined Blyth Spartans for a while but his personal website at Official Player Sites seems to have ignored that and gives no details of his time there.
Talking to Carlisle and Shrewsbury fans he seems to be permanently lacking in match fitness but he has time to work on that before the start of the new season.
