Flymo off as Reds slump at Crawley
Stuart Watkiss named an un-changed side for this game at Crawley. After the weekend result at Gravesend the Harriers fans hopes were high that we could repeat that win down the road at Gatwick Airport but sadly it was not to be. In fact it was not to be within the first three minutes.
With the game barely underway Daryl Burgess inexplicitly put the ball into his own net with no one around and Danby nowhere near being able to stop it going in.
The game then died as a spectacle for almost the remainder of the half with the only high? point being the carding of Terry Fleming for mouthing off at the local, Hampshire, referee. Apart from a shot that was easily collected by the Crawley keeper Ward and a shot in the closing seconds of the half from Andy Lindegaard for Crawley that was just about it for a rather drab first half.
HT: 1 - 0
The second half was no improvement for us and although Crawley were getting more possession of the ball they were still failing to penetrate a stolid Harriers back line and didn't get a shot on goal until ten minutes from the end and they scored from that.
Meanwhile, in an attempt to get back onto equal terms, Stuart tried to change things around a bit by bringing on Tai, Lee Thompson and Gareth Sheldon in quick succession to replace Michael Blackwood, Laurie Wilson and Simon Russell but it didn't work out.
That previously mentioned goal came from Jamie Cade and led indirectly to the dismissal of Flymo. Obviously having a bad hair day he again mouthed off at the referee after the goal was scored and received a red card for his stupidity. He'll now miss the game against the new basement club, Tamworth, on Saturday.
With us now two goals to the bad and down to ten men Crawley shut up shop while the referee added five minutes of extra time. We failed to do anything with this bonus and came away from Crawley having lost out yet again to a club that have been struggling near the foot of the table for most of the season.
We did it against Forest Green and Halifax and we don't want to do it against Tamworth do we?
