Aggborough news
Date: 29-07-2006 Harriers fire blanks again
For the second game in a row the Harriers failed to prise open a resolute defence and had to come away from Halesowen Town's Grove headquarters without a goal to their name.    It wasn't through want of trying though with chances going begging by Dean Sturridge, Michael Blackwood, Scott Eaton and Luke Reynolds.

In addition to Eaton there was also an appearance from the latest Harriers signing with Brian Smikle taking part in the game after they both signed for the club earlier this week.    For the opposition there was an added attraction for Harriers fans with Matt Lewis and the legendary Chris Brindley in their side.

Town were the first to get a look in on goal with Scott Bevan being forced into an early save in the seventh minute but we had to wait until just before the half hour when we saw Blackwoods drive gathered safely by the Halesowen keeper, Woodhall.    Scott Eaton had two chances to grab the lead for us, the first from Simon Russells cross and the second following a run and feed from Blackwood that should have ended in the back of the net but sadly didn't.

Just before the end of the half Stuart Whitehead really should have done better with a corner from Jonny Harkness that he sent soaring way over the bar.

The start of the next half should have bought fresh hope that we would score but it was to be more of the same.    Chances going begging and a lack of ability in taking their chances earlier.

Luke Reynolds sent another well crafted move over the bar and Dean Sturridge fired into the side netting after being set up perfectly by Smikle.    Former Harrier Matt Lewis showed that he hasn't learnt much since leaving us when he took too long to set himself up for the shot and was robbed of the ball just before he was able to shoot.

We should have wrapped the game up with a few minutes left on the clock but Dean Sturridge could only look on in disbelief as his shot hit the crossbar from a short distance out.

Harriers:
Bevan, Harkness (Sedgemore), Hurren (McGrath), Creighton, Whitehead, McClen, Blackwood, Reynolds (White), Russell (Smikle), Penn, Eaton (Sturridge).
