Just prior to Tuesday evenings game at Cambridge Utd Bob Taylor was given a contract of some kind to save our beleaguered manager from more embarrassment of home defeats to part time teams that play our seasoned pro's off the park. Ok, it worked to a certain extent because soon after he came on we went and scored but it was only papering over the cracks of a side low on confidence.
The chief complaint is the old chestnut of playing players out of position and persevering with players clearly not up, or interested, in the task in hand. There's no doubt that quality runs throughout the side and Yates must get that quality/enthusiasm balance right very soon before the hard pressed fans throw in the towel and give up coming to Aggborough to watch second rate dross.
For the trip to York we'll have to do without the services of Dean Sturridge after he suffered an Achilles injury against Tamworth and has undergone a scan. Not that we've ever really had his services to start with anyway. Gavin Cowan has now gone back to Shrewsbury and he won't be missed either.
York, currently in seventh place in the table, lost 3-2 at home to Morecambe on Tuesday night and will be looking to put that defeat out of their minds and get their season back on track. They seem to have no injury worries and will be at full strength.
I'm thinking that they will be getting the win they want at our expense. Unless Mark Yates changes his attitude to team selection by three o'clock Saturday then I think it will be a pointless journey.
