Match preview Vs Burton Albion

gif

Date: 12-04-09gif Venue: Aggboroughgif Kick off: 15:00hrs
A quick change of mind at the Setanta headquarters made them realise that the Easter Monday game at home to title hopefuls Burton Albion could be the day that Albion would lift the Championship title.  They were originally supposed to be at Barrow for the overwhelmingly exciting Barrow v York City encounter and hadn't realised that there was a far more interesting game due to be played out at Aggborough.

So tomorrow when the game kicks off Paul Parker and his sycophantic cronies will be going into overdrive about Burton and nothing will be said, as it ever is?, about our own promotion hopes.

With a bit of luck and a fair wind the ill educated Parker will have to 'fink of anuvver' game to catch Burton winning the title.  Burton? we're about to piss on your parade!

In the past few weeks Albion have stumbled slightly and their once chasm like lead at the top of the table has been slowly whittled away by the other contenders for the play-offs.  They did get themselves back on track a bit on Saturday by disposing of Histon 3-1 at home but last Monday they also lost at home to fellow title hopes Torquay Utd.

During that game their leading scorer, the former Harriers target, Greg Pearson got himself sent off and so suspended for three games.  There was temporary joy amongst the Harriers fans with the good news that he wouldn't be able to play against us then the following night at Forest Green our leading scorer, Justin Richards, also got sent off and he too will miss the game.  We're quits then.

Richards should be the only one missing for us with both Martin Riley and Lee Baker back from suspension but there is a question mark against Riley due to the badly gashed head he received at Altrincham.  He should be ok with a few stitches though.

Dean Bennett also failed to make the bench at Alty and that could have been down to the knock he picked up against FGR and having to play through it at Ebbsfleet.  He too could miss out if he hasn't recovered.

Apart from the above mentioned Pearson, Burton could also be without veteran keeper after he pulled up with a strained back prior to the game against Histon yesterday.  At the age of 40 he should be in a bath chair anyway.  Saul Deeney stands by to take over.

Whatever the result tomorrow it should be a good holiday crowd at Aggborough and if Burton do get the point they need to go back into the Football League* then so be it and bloody well done to them.  I don't think they will be doing it tomorrow though.

Tough 'aint it Setanta :)
