Match preview Vs Forest Green Rovers

gif

Date: 26-12-08gif Venue: Aggboroughgif Kick off: 13:00hrs
We'll be hoping for a gift of three points in the Boxing Day game against Forest Green when they visit Aggborough for a Blue Square Premier game.  This year it will be our only festive break meeting with them because the return fixture at the New Lawn has been postponed because of both sides continuing interest in the FA Cup.

On the day we travel the short distance to the Ricoh, for our game with Coventry City, FGR will be entertaining Derby County.

Lee Ayres For the more immediate game we'll be without both Russ Penn and Mark Creighton.  Penn for the fifth booking picked up against Burscough and Creights for the red card he was burdened with at Crawley with on Saturday.  That red card came in his first game back after missing the Burscough game because he had reached five yellow cards.  Dean Bennett and Luke Jones will take their places.

On the injury front we should be back at full strength now that Lee Baker is over his knee injury.  Brian Smikle can now move back into his normal wide role and put the nightmare of Crawley behind him.

Michael McGrath is now back at the club following the termination of his loan spell at Worcester City because of their financial problems.  He's not expected to play any part in the Forest Green game and, along with Paul Bignot, has been told that he can leave the club in the New Year.

In the Forest Green camp it all looks ok before the game with Alex Lawless now back in action following hamstring and back injuries and Jonathon Smith having served his one game ban against Kettering last week.  No other problems have been reported and they should be at full strength.

Surprisingly they now have a former Harrier playing for them and one we thought had dropped down the football pyramid to play at un-fashionable local clubs.  Lee Ayres signed for them last week after leaving us for Burton Albion years ago and then proceeding to join Moor Green and Redditch Utd.  It'll be interesting to see if has suddenly discovered some unknown footballing skills that we never saw.

I expect the Reds to give the fans another three points for Christmas after this game.  They should have learnt some lessons from some poor displays in recent weeks and go all out to win this game against a team that have only won twice in their last sixteen games.

Now please don't look stupid by turning up at Aggborough at 3:00pm for this game because the kick off is now two hours earlier at 1:00pm.  Don't forget to bring your turkey sandwiches with you.
