Match preview Vs Histon

Barring a miracle we'll be without Russ Penn for this '6 pointer' against Histon tomorrow evening.  No official word from KHFC yet as to what the injury is exactly but consensus from the fans at Barrow on Saturday is that it looked like the cruciate ligament.  On previous knowledge of this terrible injury we could be without Russ for close on a year.

You have to feel for the lad and I'm sure that everyone associated with Harriers Online wish Russ the best of luck in getting himself back into action as soon as possible.

This setback now means that a fringe player needs to step up to the oche and take his place.  The favourite for that has to be Dean Bennett but both Darryl Knights and David McDermott should also be considered and I would favour McDermott at the moment.  His fast style of play could be the spur our front line need to get back into scoring mode, something that has been sorely missing from our game recently.

Both Justin Richards and Matt Barnes-Homer had poor games at Barrow and with Stefan Moore waiting in the wings then it's time they snapped out of it.

Tomorrow will see the home debut of our latest addition to the squad when Craig Armstrong takes to the field.  He signed for us on Friday afternoon after being released by Cheltenham at the beginning of the month.  At Barrow he played at left back in place of the rested Lee Baker but I expect Baker to return against Histon and Armstrong could then take the place of Andy Ferrell in midfield.

Histon must be the surprise package this season and although they are sitting comfortably in second place how long will it be before they get found out and start to slip down the table?  Already they are getting a fixture back log with their home game against Grays being called off due to a waterlogged pitch - the only game called off all weekend.

Add in the League games missed because of their FA Cup run and they're now three games behind the leaders Burton and two behind the Harriers.  Then again they could fool all of us and win all those games to go within touching distance of the leaders.

Histon will be without Patrick Ada tomorrow with him serving a two game ban and there are doubts about the fitness of Nathaniel Knight-Percival and Gareth Gwillim for the game.  Knight-Percival picked up a knock in training and Gwillim is making a comeback from a medial ligament injury picked up a month ago at Grays.

This is going to be a tough game and Histon will be no pushover.  They showed that in the 1-1 draw at Aggborough last season and I think we'll be looking at a similar scoreline tomorrow unless our forwards get cracking and score.
