Brian Smikle Brian 'Junior' Smikle became the second high profile player to leave Aggborough in as many weeks today when he joined his former management team, Mark Yates and Neil Howarth, at Cheltenham Town.

The nippy midfielder come winger had been stalling on a new contract since before the end of the season and this had alerted a number of other clubs to his possible availability and today our near neighbours swooped for his signature.  Hereford Utd, Wrexham and Luton Town were the others that had been mentioned.

Brian joined us back in July 2006 after being release by West Brom a few months earlier.  At first he struggled to make any kind of real impression on the team and when he did he would find himself the first to be substituted but he slowly found his name becoming one of the first ones on the team sheet and with it the goals started to arrive.

Never a big goalscorer he did chip in with enough to be classed as a striker and last season he could have been our outright top shot with thirteen goals but in the last game of the season at Mansfield Chris McPhee scored twice to give him the same tally as Junior.

In the previous season he scored ten goals but that was never going to get him within sight of Justin Richards twenty one goals.  Junior will now be able to renew his partnership with the former Harriers man.

Brian has signed a one year contract at Whaddon Road.
