Date: 05-06-2010 gif Lee Baker leaves for an ambitious club
Lee Baker After weeks of rumours concerning the intended destination of the Harriers left back, Lee Baker, it was finally revealed yesterday by his new club, Newport County, that he had signed for them.  The newly promoted side was the one that he had hinted at after turning down the KHFC boards derisory offer of a one year extension to his contract when all he had wanted was the security and confidence that such a contract gives.

He won a handful of awards in the end of season ceremonies and was one of the most improved members of the squad last season.  It was a surprise to many that he was never called up to play in the England C side.

Lee joined the Harriers from West Brom on loan in August 2008 after coming through the ranks at the Hawthorns but missing most of the previous season with a bad knee injury.  After five months with us temporarily he joined us permanently in January 2009.  He went on to make a total of 112 appearances for us without scoring in a league game but scored twice against Worcester City in the Senior Cup last season.

When the news came out that he was being offered such poor terms compared to other players that Steve Burr, the Harriers manager, had bought in then it was obvious that all was not well but at least the offer of a contract means that the twenty one year old becomes subject to a fee under the Bosman rules.

It makes you wonder if that's all the club wanted in the first place?
