As we all know by now Matty Barnes-Homer has spread his wings and flown off to Luton airport in search of fame and promotion. For once it's nice for the club to be involved in the biggest news story of the day even if it was, from our point of view, for all the wrong reasons. In place of MBH we have bought in two more players in Ryan Charles and Damian Spencer and we'll have to wait and see if they will be adequate replacements for Matt.
Either one of those two will start tomorrow and I'm going with it being Spencer rather than Charles and that's down to the simple reason that Mark Yates knows Spencer personally from their time together at Cheltenham. I would prefer Charles to start alongside Robbie Matthews because the Luton lad looks a good match for Robbie and could win the clever knockdowns better than Spencers 'bull at a gate' technique.
Apart from John Finnigan (groin) we should be at full strength.
We played AFC Wimbledon just a few weeks ago and won there 1-0 with the goal coming from the dearly departed. This quick re-match was made possible by both clubs being out of the FA Cup, 2nd round tomorrow, and so both having a slot in the diaries.
Yesterday the Wombles manager, Terry Brown, signed Will Hendry on a short term deal until the end of the year from Dagenham and Redbridge. The goalscoring midfielder will probably start against us tomorrow.
On the injury front they'll be without Alan Inns after a scan revealed damage to his anterior cruciate ligament and that will require an operation. He's likely to be out of action for six to nine months.
After the improvement in form over the past couple of weeks it'll be interesting to see if that will continue now that we are without MBH. The two new strikers are an unknown quantity really although we do know more about Spencer from his time at Waddle Rd but at least we now have someone on the bench that could come on and change things if needed. Something that has been sadly missing this season.
It's a hard game to forecast and originally I would have said that we would be doing the double over Wimbledon but now I'm not so sure.
