Now that the Harriers have finally got themselves firmly back into the play offs, thanks to that superb win at Southport yesterday, it's now time to consolidate, or improve upon, that valuable fifth place spot.  To that end we need to win this Bank Holiday game at home to Newport and do it emphatically in front of, hopefully, a well attended Aggborough Stadium.

Lee Baker For the second game running at Southport, last week it was at Grimsby, we scored the winning goal in the last gasp seconds of the game after originally going a goal down early on.  To the lads credit they battled back and looked a class above their hosts.

The winning goal was something of a fluke from Luke Jones but it was all the better for him in wiping out the memory of the goal he gifted Southport in the first half following a severe case of professional naivety in not clearing the ball out for a throw-in.  He was being harried by the Southport winger and lost the ball twice before finally relinquishing it and allow Andrew Owens to play Alan Moogan in to score.

We came back home with no injuries to any of the players and will be at our present day full strength for the Newport game.  We still won't have Kyle Storer available as he will be serving another installment of his two game ban for yellow cards.

Newport themselves will also be at almost full strength with the only doubt being Andy Sandell who will miss out with an ankle strain.

They still have quite a few ex Harriers there with Darryl Knights, Wayne Hatswell, Sam Foley and Ryan Charles all there but there still seems to be no sign of Lee Baker (right).  He has featured fifteen times for them since coming back from injury just before the start of the season but doesn't appear to feature for them anymore.

At the moment Newport sit just above the relegation spots having failed to build on the pre-season promise that last seasons ninth place finish gave them.  Many pundits expected them to be amongst the front runners this time round but as we all know the experts actually know very little about real life.

Because of that close proximity to the drop they will be fighting for a point at the minimum and it should make for a gripping game for both sets of fans.

They do have a Wembley appearance in the FA Trophy Final against York City to look forward to and it goes without saying that we all wish them the best of luck in that game.  No such luck from us for tomorrow though.
