The Harriers continued on the road tonight with this friendly that could be termed as near to home as you can get without actually being inside Aggborough. Stourport Swifts was the destination for a mixture of Jerry Gills Academy team and a few barely known triallists. Marvin Johnson was the only actual first teamer and he was on the bench.
Swifts were stronger looking with what was probably their first team with the only known face being that of the former Bromsgrove man Mark Benbow. He played for them at the same time as Dean Bennett and Adie Smith so I dread to think how old he is now.
Now we've got the introductions over you'll be thinking "I'll hang around for a cracking match report now". Sorry but you're not getting one. The game was the pits :(
Very little action, very little passion and almost zero skill was on show from us and boy did it drag. You kept hoping that the next whistle you heard would have been the final one but no, we had to suffer in silence.
You would have thought that these lads would be hoping to impress but it didn't seem so. A couple in particular had no intention of jumping for a ball even when a colleague had placed it perfectly for them.
What was a thankfully short break saw the start of the second period and the appearance of Marvin Johnson. Oddly he seemed to being played rather too deep in the Mickey Demetriou/Lee Vaughan type of róle that saw him hardly crossing the halfway line at times. He didn't seem too enamoured with it and neither did we.
The known triallists didn't impress too much either. Ed Baldy looked sound in goal and will almost certainly be signing for us to give Danny Lewis an uneasy time. Darren Jefferies from Bristol Rovers looked good when no one was near him but lost the ball when someone came near while Ethan Manion tried but had no support.
Finally the goal came. Not many people noticed it to be honest. Most were on their way home by then.
We were told it was Ryan Simmons. Who are we to disbelieve them?
