Amari Morgan-Smith was our first signing on deadline day this afternoon and then later in the evening came the confirmation of the signing of Nathaniel Jarvis from Cardiff City.  Jarvis had already mentioned the move on his Twitter page during the previous night but it seems that due to him being Welsh and coming from a Welsh club that he had to be given international clearance first.  Do English players going to a Welsh club have the same hoops to jump through?

Morgan-Smith has joined us from Macclesfield for an initial one month while Jarvis will be with us until the end of the season.  This arrangement gives us the option to look at both players without having to spend a fee on them even though we have some spare cash rolling around following Jamille Matts transfer to Fleetwood.  Good sense by the club.

Two players definitely not coming, yet, are Jamie Reed from York City and Scott Hogan from Ashton Utd.  Both had been touted in the past week or two with Ashton even going public that their man had signed for us and wishing him luck.  Obviously they had jumped the gun slightly and it's now all fallen through.

On the flip side of the coin we have had no players leaving us for pastures new.  A couple were expected to go but unless they are released from their contracts in the coming week we have now strengthened the squad in readiness for the play off push.

We do have Sean Clancy on a non contract deal with us and I think he'll now be seen as surplus to requirements and will quietly leave the club.  His case hasn't been helped by his red card at Mansfield and you have to feel a bit of compassion for the lad at not being able to show us what he is capable of.
