Mickey Demetriou Another sad day for Harriers fans, and this website, today when the much admired Mickey Demetriou (left) decided to leave the club and make his long awaited step up to the football league.  This morning, just after his arrival back on English soil following an England C team tour of Europe, the popular young defender opted to join up with freshly relegated Shrewsbury Town, now managed by the former Harriers defender Mickey Mellon.

Mickey has been sponsored by Harriers Online for three years now ever since his arrival at the club from Eastbourne back in 2011 making him the longest ever such player in the history of Harriers Online.  Before Eastbourne he was with the Glenn Hoddle academy along with a few other Southern based non league clubs.

Since his arrival here at Aggborough he has made the number three shirt his own with the occasional excursion into the centre half position when called on.  In both rôles he has excelled and in doing so has bought himself into attention with many other clubs seeking his contract including Peterborough Utd and Cheltenham Town.  It was widely thought that he would be joining back up with Lee Vaughan at Waddle Road from the day that Lee joined them last month so it came as something of a surprise when he decided to go to Shropshire instead.

It goes without saying that all of us on here wish him well for the future and we could hopefully be meeting up with him again very soon when the Shrews arrive here for a friendly in July.

Now for a quick catch-up with the rest of the recent news at Aggborough.

Last week Gary Whild made his third and fourth signing in readiness for the new term with, firstly, the re-signing of goalkeeper Jas Singh from Solihull Moors and then a few days later in came wideman Ahmed Obeng from Rushall Olympic for a small fee.  Singh played for the Harriers for one season from 2009 to 2010 but left after one year to get himself some first team football at Solihull.  He racked up a credible 192 games with them and has now returned to the big time with us.

As for Obeng he had spent four years with Rushall before joining us and in his time there had become a crowd favourite with his pace and goals.  For some reason he was never picked up by a bigger club even though he had been a regular watch for the scouts visiting Damson Lane.  Hopefully Gary Whild has decided to take a risk on the lad and it's now up to Ahmed to see if he can re-0pay the faith shown in him by his new manager.

The club have now also finalised the list of friendly games to be played during July.  That list starts with a visit to Littleton following Joe Lolleys arrival at the club from there last season.  Joe has quickly gone on to better things but the club have still honoured the agreement to play a friendly game against them.

Also on the list are visits from Birmingham City and Cheltenham Town, as well as the Shrewsbury game, towards the end of the month to set us up nicely for the start of the new season.  The full list can be found here.
