It isn't quite like that but that's how it appears to us mere mortals that follow a less fashionable team. In fact you have to feel sorry for the team members with those two, Bernard Morley and Anthony Johnson, turning the air a darker shade of blue come win or lose.
In the TV programme it concentrated a lot on Gareth Seddon, a player we have crossed swords with many a time at Kettering, Chester and Fleetwood, and a very good striker he was too. Sadly he is no longer with them more's the pity but the team now sitting second in the table aren't doing too badly without him. His replacement is Mike Phenix who spent some time with Telford and Southport but for some reason he never clicked with them and his petulance always seemed to let him down. but at Salford he seems to have seen the light and is now banging the goals in for them and has already scored six in nine games.
They also have the big centre back Simon Grand, formerly of Barrow, Michael Nottingham who left promoted Solihull to go North? and Richie Wellens who has just left Shrewsbury for them. Up until Tuesday evening they were at the top of the table but dropped down a place following the 2-2 home draw with Halifax after leading 2-0 for most of the game. It's a pity we didn't take more advantage of that by beating Telford but that's the way football is.
A deflected goal midway through the first half put paid to our hopes of three points and no matter how much pressure we applied on their goal we were never going to score with our powder puff attack. Colins Vision might be pretty to watch but we're at the wrong level for tippy tappy football and Telford drove that home in the cruellest way. There's no doubting that we need a big brute up front to batter in the goals but that's never going to happen here. We just have to hope that our elite strikeforce come good at some point but don't hold your breath just yet.
Apart from possibly Jared Hodgkiss we should be back to full strength tomorrow with James McQuilkin returning to the side following his one match ban. Ryan Croasdale covered for him at Telford while Ashley Carter returned at number four following his three game absence due to a red card picked up against Stalybridge the other week. He had a poor game at Telford though and will probably only make the bench for the Salford game.
Obviously with Salford going well near the top of the table this is going to be a tough game against a team we know very little about not having played them before. Our only knowledge of them comes from seeing them on television but they do look to be a good side. I'll be going for a draw but still be hoping that we can come good and get the win. And lots of goals.
