Blakey began his footballing career at Aston Villa but after four years of never being able to secure a regular starting place he moved on to Portsmouth for £400,000.

He only lasted a year down on the South coast before another transfer took him to Leicester City for £360,000.

He spent two years at Filbert St until signing first for Walsall and then last season for Mansfield Town.

He joined the Harriers in July 2001 on a two year contract but sustained a bad Achilles injury in his first season with us that eventually led to his retirement from the game at the age of 32.
