Russ Penn
Russ Penn is the new Halesowen manager.
Good luck to him. Be interesting to see if he tries to get any of our fringe players in or not.

Good move for both parties that. Good ambitious club for Penn, local. Perhaps he will learn a bit having someone experienced like Whild in his backroom staff.

Surprised it's that low. He'll learn a lot from Whild, the sort of figure he needed with him all along, and obviously played with Martin Riley as well.
The best team we ever had- since i've been watching the Harriers (2002-)

Re: League news / Former Harriers 2
Penn's Dad (Mark) won the FA Vase twice at Wembley in the 80s so this will feel like a good fit for Russ I'm sure. Local so no family upheaval.
A club that got promoted last season so a little surprising they've got rid of Smith - high expectations from the fans there. They've a good following and will have ambitions to make the NLN in the near future.
I'd say it fits Russ perfectly.
And who would bet against us being in the same league in the next 3-10 years?!
I've seen a few games recently at the Grove and found it v enjoyable. Much preferable to Stourbridge.

I see that its a long term deal, and someone has said to me its four years. Very bold if so. What if it all goes a bit iffy like it did for us last season? Can they afford to move him on? Their problem not ours I suppose.

Always wondered if it would be any different if he had an experienced head alongside him here. Whild is a very good number two, knows the levels, been around and also knows local players. Could really help Russ out that.

Re: League news / Former Harriers 2
Pleaaed for Russ getting back in at a good club at Halesowen. Expectations high and lost their way this season - despite being sat 10th in their step 3 return.
He'll have a healthy budget at his disposal. It wouldn't surprise me if Jimmy goes in at the end of the season. Fully expecting a significant overhaul in the summer. As one manager at the level said to me "some of that squad will realise now the gravy train is ending".
A few of our cast offs at the end of the season will rock up there, I'm sure. That'll bring pressure because people will look at Russ who was a Step 1 manager at Christmas.
I know Paul Smith has moved upstairs, but with Tim Flowers in situ at Bromsgrove until the end of the season, it wouldn't surprise me to see Smith make that move at the end of the season and take some of the Halesowen lads with him - lads like Hayward and Manning.
I expect I'll be asked to watch another Halesowen game before the season is out so will be interesting to see what Russ can do early doors

Best of luck to Russ. I really hope it works out for him. I guess he'll be working with Mircale Okafor after all after loads of fans wanted us to bring him in.
Only 9 points off the playoffs as well, if he gets them firing they could be an outside shout for the playoffs.
If this rumour of 4 years is true that's a crazy deal though. Especially at non league level.
