Of all those that have gone, the biggest loss will be Ryan Croasdale - we will miss his energy and drive - remains to be seen who will pick up the mantle.

I agree. Consistently an 7 or 8 out of 10 player with class beyond this level. Bloody Fylde nicking our best *shakes fist*redandwhitemike wrote: ↑Wed Jul 18, 2018 7:57 pmOf all those that have gone, the biggest loss will be Ryan Croasdale - we will miss his energy and drive - remains to be seen who will pick up the mantle.
I haven't seen the new lot so can't judge their quality, but we've lost an awful lot of quality in midfield, even if Macca was in decline and Elton could be unpredictable.

Breaking it down there are four gone of better than North quality: Croasdale, McQuilkin, N'Gwatala and Sonupè
They have possibly been replaced with just 2 of similar quality: Chambers and Johnson and he's only here on loan. Ed Williams the jury is out until he's proved himself.

Williams seems like quite a good player pacy and can finish so imo we need a solid midfielder to play in croasdales shoes then we are set

Not enough back up yet imo. 2 or 3 injuries - which always happen- and we are stuffed.
Bradley in particular seems injury prone.

After yesterday’s game v Blues u23s, to me, those coming in do not seem the same calibre as McQuilkin, Croasdale, Sonupe and Ngwatala.
Also Vaughan and O’Connor are another year slower (demonstrated by the winning goal v Blues) and there seems little competition for places.
I fear yet again we will finish in a lower league position this season for a 6th consecutive year. We do not appear to be able to break the downward spiral.

Purely based on that game - I would say Ed Williams will take the supporting midfield role that Elton played and I think he will score more goals !!
That's a plus.
Don't think we have a replacement for Snoopy as we are playing a different system - so not sure I would compare any of the squad against him.
That's a neutral
McQuilkin towards the end of last season lost his way - my guess is Daniels will play a similar role to Supamac but he won't do it in the same way.
Jury is out - possibly a negative?
Dec Weeks didn't play against Blues but he could take the Croasdale role - without quite reaching the same heights
A negative .
Overall I think the midfield is THE issue that NM has to sort - it's not quite right yet,
If he set on playing two up front - who partners Joe - it's either Dan Bradley or Chambers - don't think there is room for both.

Weeks played the role for the second half of the season last season as was Croasdale pushed forward. And he did it brilliantly.redandwhitemike wrote: ↑Sun Jul 22, 2018 3:08 pmDec Weeks didn't play against Blues but he could take the Croasdale role - without quite reaching the same heights

Re: Who's signed up for the 2018-2019 Squad
We have an imbalance of attacking players & in the current system I don`t see how they will fit in. Bradley not as effective in a midfield 3, wasting our best player. Williams has to start, been very impressive in the 2 games I`ve seen. Can`t see Chambers not starting, looks lively. Baxendale is also an attacking player, Weeks, Truslove?
We need a good defensive midfielder who can challenge in the air, then I would go;
Attack, Ironside/Chambers.
Mid, wide,Bradley/Williams. Centre Weeks/another.
Def, any 4 from several. (The left sided wingback looked useful, better team player than Taylor).

Pretty sure the new gaffer will go 3 - 5 - 2 when going forward and revert to a defensive 5 - 4 - 1 when defending.
On players currently my first 11 would be:
Hall
Horsfall - O'Connor - Johnson
Vaughan - Williams - Weeks - Bradley - -Taylor
Ironside - Chambers
Bench: Austin - Digie - Baxendale - Truslove - AN OTHER
Midfield to have Bradley just behind the front two effectively playing 3 - 4 - 1 - 2
