We were at about the same level as them really. No worse, no better.

Looks to have a good pedigree (England U-20s etc.) but seems to have been dogged with knee problems.....

Love me an absolute unit at the back at this level & he's plenty of experience, so I really like him in that regard. Though ideally you would like a little more mobility alongside Lowe.

On the other hand he's not been pristine in performance, but I find it so hard to judge defenders at this level. No-one can defend really. His involvement in the goal against Halesowen was just bizarre.

Not sure if he thought he'd just got enough on the clearance for it to go out, or he didn't wanna risk going in with more force, and up-ending the player. To be fair to him, he'd have likely cleared it when the cross came in if Montrose hasn't got in the way. Gave him right evils afterwards which you love to see. And Lewis was good enough to hold his hands up.

First half we were too quick for them, knocking the ball around confidently, second half, a bit more slower. I think if we played them in the cup we would have more gears to go up. Martin looks useful.

Not public yet. Don’t know when it will be announced. But signed this morning apparently.

I assume then that Geraldo Bajrami has turned us down?

I believe he went to have a trial with Barnet

Can someone give me the rundown on what Montrose brings apart from being big? Some of his passing was pretty poor.

I enjoyed the game and think we were better than Halesowen but not by much. Here's my player rundown (at least those that I've got something to say about):

Caleb Richards - I think he's very good at this level. Enjoy watching him
Keith Lowe - lots of experience but is slow and has been pretty error prone in pre-season
Sam Austin - absolutely our best player, playing in the number ten role. Neat, tricky, confident, shoots on target. The main man (and I say that as someone who didn't rate him at full back at all)
Mark Carrington - Looks good in the centre. Unflashy - 'metronomic' I think they call it :D Always offering himself. Better than Montrose, from what I've seen
Ashley Hemmings - has been poor pre-season. Nothing coming off for him and is trying to do too much individually. If he plays for the team he might play himself back into form
Omari Sterling - good player. Drifts in and out of games but clearly has a lot of quality at this level. One nice free kick using the 'knuckleball' skill.
Keziah Martin - I like him. Scored his first goal. Seems quiet on the pitch.
Ethan Freemantle - works his arse off (unlike some others) but never looks like scoring even in good positions. Lost nearly every header he went up for.
Joe Foulkes - typical young player from a higher level. Some really good skill and a couple of bad decisions. Should be fine once he settles in.

We need a proper striker - Maybe Bell is that? He's big and had a few nice touches. No sight of goal though.

Possibly facile observation: Penn has made us a bigger team - there's some real big lads there now - but we're not as technical as we once were. We needed to toughen up but do we have the guile now? Where's our Elton or Arthur?
