York through
At least we can still have a nice, short trip to Brackley.

Re: York through
Where we never win. Great
Feel for Brackley a little having been up there all season, but frankly they don't have the infrastructure or fanvase to justify going up.
Not a nice choice between a plastic club who will appoint people like James Rowe in a win-at-all-costs approach to going up, or York or Boston or both have mouthy fans who were giving it large about how they were going to walk the league in August, but then disappeared until this week.
Think I'd just go for York going up ahead of Boston, then Fylde. That's my order of preference anyway. Galling to see reo clubs we finished miles clear of and did the foibles over still in with a shout when we're not, but fair play to them for hitting form at the right time - they deserve their shot at promotion.

Re: York through
I had a feeling they’d beat Brackley given both teams forms. If there was a chance for us to actually do it thru the play offs that was it.

Re: York through
Please not York. Mouthy fans yes, but at least a nice place to take the missus next season.
We will already be going to at least three shytholes out of Brackley, Boston, Fylde and Chorley. I don’t want to make it four.

Wonder how near the Brackley sugar daddy is to throwing the towel in, pathetic attendances considering their recent league finishings.

Listening in. 2050 the attendance... Estimated around half of those are away fans. What an embarrassment.

Re: York through
Marvellous! So two shyt teams (for promotion standards, anyway) are going to compete for promotion rather than teams who finished around 20 points better off? Exactly why I hate the play-offs, as the best teams should always go up in my opinion. That being said, at least this system is fairer than the model the FL uses, and York and Boston are ‘proper’ football clubs unlike Brackley and Flymo. I don’t rue a missed opportunity. I don’t think we would go up until we learn the art of winning when it matters most. But still disheartening that either a team who have floundered in mid-table for much of the season, and a team who have won only three more games than they’ve lost will get to go up instead.

Fair play to both York and Boston. At least a former FL club will be getting promoted.2 traditional clubs.
Good luck to both clubs.

Re: York through
SCF, I think you've missed the point about the play-off system. Both Boston and York have improved throughout the season whereas others near the top may have got worse or stood still. So the system is good for teams that have the momentum and can have some hope of going on to do well at a higher level. Harriers peaked too soon and didn't improve so they are not good enough to go up.

Re: York through
Koro, you make some valid points, but there are parts of my post you have ignored or not read. I DID say the system was fairer than the one the Football League uses, and I DIDN’T say we deserved to go up. My point was referring more to Brackley and Fylde. Read my post again.
Your point about the play-offs rewarding in-form teams who get better is a fair point if there are a handful of points between the winning and losing clubs. But when Boston finished a whopping 24 points behind Brackley yet might go up instead, it makes a mockery of the whole thing to be honest. There have been seasons where there’s been less between promoted and relegated teams. I didn’t miss your point, because if I had my way I would scrap the play-offs altogether. I do accept, however, I am one of an ever-diminishing breed who wants this scenario.

Re: York through
On a purely selfish level, I am happy to lose either of Boston or York from the division. Both are likely to be better next season. I only wish they could take Fylde and Chester with them - as I suspect the same will be true of them
