AMS has been a legend for us, but do people really think he'll score goals for us if played between now and the end of the season? What are his stats for this season???

I’ve not calmed down since sleeping on that insipid performance.
AM spoke of a dressing room dust up. Where was that aggression when Dawson was laughing in their faces 1st half? We were easily intimidated last night. That was evident in the goals we conceded.
A goal scorer is number 1 priority before we kick off next season in NLN.
Last night’s performance cannot happen again.

Recommendations of AMS returning to start up front to cure our goalscoring issues concern me.
He isnt a goal threat, starting to look like a player in his mid thirties and his goals from open play since January last year you can count on one hand - this is the stat people are forgetting yet some think he will be an answer to our prayers. We have needed an upgrade on him the second we won at Brackley in the playoffs.
Lets see what Waldron can do in a two rather than isolating him, crossing balls into box that done even meat first man and hoofing the ball to him as the midfield seem to avoid looking after the football like its carrying a nasty virus.
if you couple goals with clean sheets you've a recipe for success

As it stands, I would play AMS and Waldron together up top, Hemmo wide right but roaming inwards to play off them both. Effectively leaving space for Foulkes to push up in the gap that's left. Devine in his usual position. Cooper and Davis as that base in midfield. Reynolds, sadly, off the bench or to start in place of Hemmo. Goals would come.

With AMS, thesedays it's not the goals he scores, it's the goals he creates for others. Space he creates. Defenders he manages to occupy. I would look to replace him in the long term, but it's no coincidence the rejuvenation in December came with AMS starting regularly.

Fair point. I think that's worth a try. But ideally you'd still rather have one clinical striker up there with either Waldron and AMS. At some point we need a prolific striker.

I think Walker will come good and his pace is a real asset. But he needs time to develop his crossing, shooting and decision making.

Harry, fair point - we haven't been playing to the strengths of either AH or KW. However this season's goals: AMS (3/26), KW (4/29), AH (5/27), what return from now are you realistically expecting from them for the remainder of the season?

I agree that AMS is not going to score many (if any) goals, but I feel that Hemmo likes to play off him, and they do have understanding. Harry's point about AMS is spot on.

Like Willoughby, Waldron's goal-scoring stats have dropped off in the last couple of seasons, but obviously it's far too early to be critical of him. I just hope he gets some better service, scores and keeps positive. Not sure he's had a scoring chance at all yet.

After Saturday we have a number of home games (bar Darlo on the 14th) and you'd hope we see some gusto and goals at home. Its worth saying we went 12 unbeaten before last night and the mentality needs to be to do that again.

Clearly, we aren't going to win the league. Anything other than the play-offs from this point would not be acceptable. There is certain to be plenty of clubs moving positions - Telford and Macc are making a charge at the moment but that might change. So we need to keep picking up points to make sure we finish in a position to give us a home play-off game ideally. Finishing 3rd of course, gives us one less game to play.

Its amazing to consider that we've shipped ten goals in two games against Radcliffe and Macc and yet we've still conceded the least goals in the league other than Shields and Fylde. Clearly, accusations of us being poor at the back are unfounded but shipping five goals twice does point to a mentality issue.

Reece Hall has, I think, made three starts this season. In two of those games we've lost 5-1. Is he ready? Is he good enough? Too hasty in getting rid of Tunnicliffe (although if he isn't playing, I can understand the player wanting to move). Will Evans be back Saturday?

I don't think Clarke has made enough positive contributions this season. Yes he suffered from injury and might not be up to speed again but it was a big call starting him last night. He also started in the defeat at Peterborough earlier in the season. Would rather we'd have kept Spokes tbh.

Walker has potential but he's only 21 still and played all his football last season a level below. He can't be the great hope. Give Thompson a run in the side.

Let's get rid of TSS at the earliest opportunity. Hopefully Waldron and Hemmo come good in terms of assists and goals. Davis, Devine, Reynolds and Obi lead the scoring charts. Says it all!

Could do with some more votes in the MotM poll peeps.

Poor old Joe's feeling lonely by himself in there.

None of Macclesfield's first three looked offside. Marking was appalling for all of them. How was Mellor left completely free, 2 yards out, for the third?

Great run by Mellor for their first. Just on side. Who does that for us? Not often.

Obi completely flat footed for the second. Nobody else there.

Third is appalling. Neither the player the free kick was played to, or the goalscorer were properly tracked. Abysmal. Basic, basic stuff from the training ground. Second goal I'd argue Hall was found wanting for.

Hemmo unlucky not to score at the start of the second half. Got into a good position. Managed to make something worthwhile from Thompson's poor ball.

Obi with another 50p head again from a Devine cross not long after. Exactly what I said earlier about Devine being the only person who can cross a ball. Obi had the same against Bedford the other week.

Thompson with a decent ball for the Foulkes goal. Would have liked Hemmo to have a dig, but in the right position, and a decent lay off to Foulkes.

What was Obi doing to lose the ball for the fourth? We saw similar against Bedford (and from the highlights, Morecambe?). Poor.

Fifth goal is Obi again. Sake.

No doubt Obi had a stinker, but nobody else had a great game either.

To be fair to him, he’s been an integral part of the run we’ve been on, both defending and attacking. He’s been superb in several games and widely recognised as one of the better summer signings.

I hate to say it, but both he and PK looked shaky at Bedford too. I honestly think the artificial pitches are a big part of it. We looked rubbish last night and need to find a way of converting our strong game onto these wretched pitches.

We played 3 at the back last night for the first time in quite a while - back to the performances of earlier in the season is what it felt like in the first half - we were slow and totally ineffective against a side that played with speed and penetration resulting in a 3 nil lead for them at half time. I do not recall us having a single shot in the first half.

We started brightly though in the second half thanks to 3 changes and had 2 excellent chances to score before finally scoring to make it 3 - 1. If that had been 3 -3 or 3-2 we might have gone on to worry them but there 4th seemed to drain us and they took command again running out worthy winners on the night.

A very cold night weather wise matched by a performance that brought no warmth to the travelling supporters.
