Good performance today against probably the most physical, kick lumps out of you team in the league. The only question having witnessed the dross that Alfreton served up is how we didn’t beat them at home. We should have scored 3 or 4 today. I don’t think Dibs had anything to do at all.

Back in London.
A really professional win. Alfreton didn't have a serious chance at Dibble's goal. A lot of pressure at the start of the second half, but in reality that didn't turn into anything threatening. Otherwise it was solid and unspectacular from us. We dug in, scrapped, battled and managed to create a decent number of chances. Hemmo was unlucky not to score - he had three chances go very close. AMS might have been onside for his disallowed goal (hard to see from behind the goal, we didn't challenge it too much), and otherwise some very good play from Devine and McNally out wide.
Special mentions go to Kellerman and Brown. I've given Jim my MOTM vote, alongside Paul Downing who was great in defence - but was today Kellerman's best game for us in either spell? Battled, dug in, scrapped, passed well, had a chance spectacularly saved by their keeper. I am sceptical long-term of Reynolds not being used, but for now - the midfield combination worked well today.
Brown was very good - he gets a lot of flack, but I do think that's because he is always very positive, always trying to make things work - which is high risk and high reward. Today was a great example, and Alfreton targeted him (similar to Foulkes and Oxford).
AMS was better today - a solid penalty and he kept his composure well despite the fans behind the goal threatening the linesman (well dealt with), but he had one chance in the box in the first half and again, let the ball run too long - very similar to his opportunities against Sutton at home. Delighted he got a goal, and perhaps the penalty will give him confidence to be more decisive (and the pitch was awful today, to be fair to him), but another striker should otherwise be high on the list. Club captain or not.
I walked away from today much as I did after Peterborough and Needham away. They almost had the feeling of a cup game against a lower league opposition. We had a comfortable win - but we've seen other sides do that and score more.
Being devil's advocate, is it easy to take complacent comfort in wins like today, when actually the same issues are still there? Perhaps I'm overthinking it or being too critical. Today's a result to enjoy - but its importance will only be noticable in the context of wider form. On to Marine...

20+ in all competitions, and with that record he is one I'd ordinarily say deserves attention. Having seen him a few times this season now, I don't see him returning to the FT game. 30 years old, certainly not the most mobile now and has only completed 10 full 90 minutes (albeit some of his withdrawals have come between 80-90 minutes)

Fair enough although at 30 he’d be one of our younger forward players.harriershane wrote: ↑Sat Feb 15, 2025 8:56 pm20+ in all competitions, and with that record he is one I'd ordinarily say deserves attention. Rumour has it that we sounded him out a few months ok but he wasn't interested in going full time.

Good to be back to winning ways.
Will do confidence the world of good.
Let’s follow it up with a win at Marine.

If ever there is a game that makes us dread the national league north it would be Alfreton away.
On paper you'd think it should be a banker, between 300-400 home fans & Gerry McDonagh upfront - grim
However that's the level were at and if we want to get out of this division it's game like this we need to get 3 points on a consistent basis.
Its a great win with out recent form but must be backed up again this Tuesday versus Marine.
Unsure if its a positive or negative trend but I've noticed our last few games that nearly all MotM votes on the forum have been for defenders.

Funny him moaning about the ref, he (ref) booked JK for a pull back in the centre circle and got his book out for the first time in the game. Truth be told he should have booked at least three of theirs before that if JK's was a booking. Zac Brown was kicked from pillar to post in the first half.

Just glad that I can listen to PB's ramblings every week rather than Billy H!
