Ryan Johnson was hardly ever beaten in the air, had ability on the ball - hampered by the "playing it the right way" style of the manager at the time - was it Eustace / Gordon ? A certain section of the East Stand got on his back - a certain section of the East stand don't know football very well.

He wasn't dreadful and his career since Harriers has proved it. Like Koro said, he played the system he was told to and a lot of fans got on his back because of it. It was clear how much it got to him. I don't think he enjoyed playing for us for that reason, and that reflected on the pitch.

Since leaving us, he has a promotion out of the National League and over 100 appearances in the Football League. Fairly clear that there was a decent player if utilised well. Ended up getting stick very early in his Harriers career and in some people's eyes that seemed to mean he could do nothing right. Don't blame him for not enjoying his time here, the attitude towards him must have seemed toxic for a young player trying to make his way in the game.

Ultimately, pleased that he's making a really solid career out for himself.

Each to their own. Thought he was awful very slow but has done reasonably well since he left. Will go down as one of the worst players I have have seen play for us in the 40 years I’ve been watching.

But it speaks to something wider about our approach to players. We have no patience. I remember someone like Brian Smikle years ago, who spent years coming off the bench, doing broadly speaking - very little - before maturing and being a really key player before he went to Cheltenham. I'm not sure the fans would be so generous or patient now.

I don't think you were watching either brother. Mind you i wouldn't mind two left feet to play at his level. I assume you play at a higher level then?!

He didn’t play very well for us.

He developed and has done well.

I don’t think we are particularly unique as supporters in lacking patience at times.

Exactly this. I remember him pretty much single-handedly losing us a Cup Tie at Stourbridge back in 2018. He was not good for us.

I do find the "fan blaming" thing especially bizarre. Without fans, there wouldn't be a club. I absolutely agree, get behind the team, but if a full-time pro can't handle a bit of grumbling amongst a crowd, back then, of maybe 1500, they may have chosen the wrong profession.

I do find your comment, "fan blaming" bizarre in so much you then deliver exactly that. In a team game for someone to "single handedly losing us a cup tie" I find totally bizarre. Indeed very bizarre!

To be clear, I meant people blaming fans for poor performances. Not fans blaming players. Hope that helps.

Nope that still doesn't add up. I just don't get blaming a single player for a defeat. It seems ludicrous. Btw I was there.

Johnson was terrible for us. Dont remember him having a good consistent run of form. Error strewn.
Hes clearly gone on to do well so fair play to him.
Fans all over the country are very fickle and players get stick from their own. As Sheff said we arent unique. Some of the posts above are hysterical to say the least to make out that we are.
if you couple goals with clean sheets you've a recipe for success
