People do know because of the issue with his license he was unable to get to training everyday & was only showing up to work a few days a week, right?Northern Harrier wrote: Mon Oct 06, 2025 8:15 amPB was by far the best manager we have had for a very long time. I actually thought he was the best manager we've had in a few years. Not everyone's cup of tea, but I trusted his 'philosophy', and I enjoyed the sprinkling of 'razzmatazz' that he brought to the club.
As it is, I feel we're sinking fast (admittedly I could have said that 5 or 10 years ago too, and that doesn't make me feel any better).
It's just that, the worst feeling for a football fan is when you have a gaffer in charge of a rudderless ship that's slowly sinking - and that's how it feels to me right now.
He also brought the club publicity - and that brings in the sponsors and money to the club (and one of the reasons I thought he was hired for in the first place. RL doesn't like the media, but as a club that needs to show ambition and that means media spotlight - PB was the best man to be manager AND deliver on the media front)
Somewhere along the lines it looks like the narrative was changed for him and the fallout is going to cost us many seasons staying in NLN
I don't disagree that at times PB looked like he didn't know how to get the best from his team, and that ultimately Southport was the most horrendous of experience for him, the team and us as fans as a result of that
In some respects, I think the club and the fans are still stuck at that pivotal Southport match, and that the expectation of being top of the league and on the verge of promotion one minute, to now playing poor football and as far from promotion as could be is actually really damaging and not being acknowledged at all by RL
For people saying we should give Murray until Christmas, If the goal is promotion or else (as demonstrated by PB's dismissal) well waiting until Christmas to deal with it is far too late to do that.
If players are struggling to deal with playing for the club, or scared of social media posts, then they shouldn't be playing football or at the club. That's not even a serious conversation
We need positive news and action and fast otherwise another season will have passed us by

Just watched the ‘highlights’. The camera work doesn’t help but we look a shambles defensively. I’m assuming we switched to a back four on Saturday but prior to that have we had consecutive matches with the same back line? It shows.
On the topic of Phil Brown and his driving licence, if this indeed was the case couldn’t the club and PB have organised some transport? It would have hardly broken the bank. Hell, I’d have done it myself for expenses and a couple of season tickets!
Surely more to it than that?

He was regularly seen on the trains. I wonder if he claimed it back. Crackers if so. If you have your licence taken off you, why should your employer cough up?Krasnyi wrote: Mon Oct 06, 2025 3:53 pm Just watched the ‘highlights’. Shocking defending for that equaliser. What was Walker doing?
All I know from word inside the Harriers offices is his attendance was minimal. The license may just have been an excuse. Steve Bruce for example is another like that. Notorious for it. Part-time perfect for Brown at this stage of the game if you ask me.Krasnyi wrote: Mon Oct 06, 2025 3:53 pm Just watched the ‘highlights’. And I should probably include I didn't want him kept on and have bias. He was too ill-tempered, turbulent & self-absorbed for my liking. Felt very Mourinho or Conte-esque, in that had the charisma, profile and know-how, whilst feeling like a ticking timebomb & not great for the bigger picture or long-term stability. But perhaps something to revise after Murray's antics. Lol.

Why were we both playing in red? Thought we had an away kit. I can't bring myself to watch it.
Agree with Northern Harrier's post above. PB was great for us fans and for the quality of the football played most of the time. Just one game short of total success. I suspect the problem was his totally opposite view of his role from that of our chairman (as I have suggested before) but how can we ever know? AS NH says losing PB has probably condemned us to years of struggling to beat the likes of Alfreton Town. The current incumbent inspires little confidence. See above.

It has been suggested with some justification that perhaps AM should have an experienced assistant.
Phil Brown had a very experienced assistant in Neil McDonald - perhaps it was understood and part of the deal that PB need not be in attendance for all training sessions etc. PB's presumed lack of presence did not appear to affect team spirit or effort on the pitch.
Of course it is all water under the bridge, so let's hope AM can decide upon a successful, settled team that might spark up the entertainment value for loyal, paying fans!
