MotM: 09-11-24. Farsley (H) Devine

A win at Aggborough, whatever next ? But lets not go overboard the failings in the final third are still there for all to see. Ironically the goal came from an error from Farsley's keeper who otherwise had an excellent game, fumbling Hemmo's cross under his bar on to Beresford's chest and into the net !! First half was total domination and yet Harriers didn't really look like scoring, far too timid and cautious in and around their box. I thought the defence played well and gave MotM to McNally closely followed by Foulkes. Farsley were poor and will struggle to survive even their thirteen fans were chanting " We are going down" Not convinced BB is the answer up front and AMS never looked like scoring - new blood required. Hereford put four past Marine which just emphasises the issue !! The three points are most welcome but the game won't live long in the memory.

Controlled 60 mins of it then we sat back and invited. Dibble with routine saves and a couple of fine bits of time wasting. Their keeper was very good first half yet it was he who gifted the goal. We didn’t really create a great deal. Only once chance when brown didn’t get in the end of a short corner. He had a couple of efforts aside the box first half one well saved. We lack a bit of the X factor up there. Maz flattered to deceive today. Ams isolated
Thought Davis and brown were decent in the middle Devine involved in some of our better moves. Kandola I think is a real find and a couple of fine blocks second half. McNally very good
Wasn’t pretty but it’s a win and certainly will take it

Well I've left the ground feeling very entertained. Excellent first hour - Farsley didn't have any spell of possession till the half hour mark. Totally dominated the first half, and I don't think I've seen us control a game so much for some time.
The slightly fortuitous opener had a strange effect on the game - it seemed to galvanise Farsley and we had to weather a bit of a flurry as the visitors showed they could play, but we saw it out. Another three points, another clean sheet. Up to fourth.
I do think the subs again had a slightly negative effect on the balance of play. Very quick to sub the best of the attacking three in Kouyhar on 50 minutes, then the two quick subs left us with no place up top and encouraged Farsley to come out and play.
The only blot on that first hour was AMS and Hemmo - not once did they gamble on reaching a cross or remotely look like scoring. Our best chances all fell to wing backs, defenders and midfielders - and that sums up our problems in the goals for column. Sorting out the front end of the team will be the final piece in the puzzle - we look like a top seven team bare minimum.
Shame that there's still some miserable old curmudgeons in the East Stand who were moaning from the first five minutes up to the end. Frankly, go and support the opposition. You clearly have no appreciation for the qualities our side possesses.
Really pleased that we ground it out when things got tougher second half, bodes well. We still had the better chances in that last half hour too.
Onwards and upwards!

Maz was off it today and Beresford scored within a minute of being on the pitch. Right place right time. Nothing wrong with that sub at all.Swansea Harrier wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2024 5:55 pm Well I've left the ground feeling very entertained. He was better than Hemmings in my opinion - Hemmo and AMS were the problem with our attacking play for me.tonythescout wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2024 6:30 pmMaz was off it today and Beresford scored within a minute of being on the pitch. But then Hemmo got the assist for the goal, so I can't moan, ha!
Maz didn't look very happy about being withdrawn though... And I think it wasn't so much about the goal, more that we had no pace up front from the hour mark onwards. We were much easier to defend against!

Agree with your comments on hemmo and ams but as you said hemmo got the assist, he scored Tuesday. Ams goals to starts ratio is very good thought he was too isolated no one around him. Looks better with someone in a ten around him which the 343 doesn’t have.Swansea Harrier wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2024 6:39 pmHe was better than Hemmings in my opinion - Hemmo and AMS were the problem with our attacking play for me.tonythescout wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2024 6:30 pmMaz was off it today and Beresford scored within a minute of being on the pitch. Impressed with Davis and brown today, have displayed concerns on our midfield before but they were very good today.

Maybe Maz was subbed because he's in international action next week as is Cadogan. So his coming on was possibly to get game time.
Maz for Afghanistan in the team against Nepal on Saturday 16th and Tajikistan the 19th on Tuesday. Maliq in the Jamaica team against USA on Friday 15th.

Glad of the win , but the usual problems at home are still there and still threaten to compromise our excellent current away form.
Very ponderous and slow in build up, with little in the way of any sudden changes of pace or attempting to turn their back four. Several times in attack mode midfield had the opportunity to thread a ball through the channels, yet said midfielder stops , puts his foot on the ball, checks the play and goes sideways.
Devine gives us an outlet but with Richards so one-footed invariably has to come inside on his weak foot (he had a right footed shot today though). AMS and Beresford had little service or quality crosses, while Hemmings and Foulkes' freedom to wander across the middle ultimately proved fruitless.
Glad of the 3 points, but the miserly defence (best in NLN now) is where we are going to progress rather than in free-scoring entertainment.

......... back to the game.
I must admit that I was underwhelmed by it. If we have to rely on a goalkeeping error to score at home something isn't working. Others will judge better than me where the problem lies but, looking solely at today's game, we created very few clear cut chances against an opposition with one of the worst defensive records in the division. For me the one positive was the result.
Reference the moaners in the East Stand, I sit close enough to hear them but most of the regulars near me just chuckle under their breath. After a while, it gets quite amusing.

Decent 60 odd minutes imo until PB changed formation and changed personnel. Look better in a back 5 IMO and controlled the game but with 2 missing now I’d take 3 points over the cup and keep pushing up the league. It’s gonna be a tough old slog but still need a couple of players in.

Ponderous was the key word today. Sorry, but Hemmo is not good enough. AMS knackered after 60 minutes. Our ambition…..promotion… please God…where is the next Malbs; Casey;Ocker; Mullen; Powelly ; Bill Bennett …the list goes on…
And we moan consistently… Harriers royalty
