I can't imagine we would have let Lambert or Ox go without some of their wages being taken on - but you may know better than I JDT.

However, I would be surprised if Ox or Lambo were going to get similar wages at their new clubs if they signed for them permanently. So that pretty much rules out them agreeing to walk away from their contract free-of-charge. Instead they will be trying to eek out as much of their current wage for as long as possible, like we all would.

Trying to release them means we would probably have to pay off the majority or all of their remaining contract. So while it would yes, free up some funds for the wage budget, it would cost the club hugely in other areas. If Lambert is on £800 a week, times that by the rest of his contract...we're talking a really substantial five-figure sum. Then add Ox on, probably less, £600 a week - that becomes even more of a chunk. These figures are just conceptual, and I have no idea how much they are on - only that Lambert is almost certainly on more!

Assume both their contracts run out at the end of the season?

Harry is surely right in his analysis. And we’d all do the same in their shoes. Maximise our income.

Does anyone think Ben Beresford will return or are blues being extra cautious?

We desperately need someone and he showed real promise

I'm feeling resigned to the fact that there'll be a "happy with what we have" message incoming and we'll sign Obadeyi until the end of the season.

And I think that means play offs.

Well end up with another youth loan from Blues judging from PBs recent interview
For an experienced manager to be naive at times is a major concern. Proof will be in the pudding come end of the season but another season in the NN is simply unacceptable. And that’s where we will end up if we do not sign a decent centre half (downing is done after that shit error against darlo it’s gone too far) and a centre forward (see numerous previous posts of mine)
Resigning injury prone penny and gojng with him
And another one in Downing as first choice centre half’s
Failing to sign a decent striker after two seasons of failings in the summer snd retaining two who have been issues with regards to that
Going with the old “Kidderminster way” Style of play
Yes he has reacted well to two of those issues and I do hope he pulls the third out the bag signing a decent striker that a) moves off the ball and b) is a selfish and clinical bastard in front of goal
But the naievity shown above which any random fan could have told you were red flags is a concern for an ex premier league manager (which he seems to slip into convo on occasions)
if you couple goals with clean sheets you've a recipe for success

Hemmo and AMS have carried us in terms of goals and assists. But agree, signing someone who can come in and contribute in that regard between now and the end of the season seems a must. Penn talked extensively and honestly to Nick about the mistakes made in recruitment. Is the new manager going to make the same mistake?

Rees has signed a new contract at Merthyr.
Reid has gone to Wealdstone.
Mooney trialled and signed for Chester.
I see Buxton have just paid a fee to Redditch for Johnny Johnstone.
Nothing on Morrison.

Agree about Downing too. Get Candola back in the team.

We have another Saturday, Tuesday double header coming up and I wonder if we are going with what we’ve got? I’d happily take four points.

Maybe the chairman isn’t willing to spend much (which is his perogative). Maybe with monies being paid to likes of Penny, Lambert and Ox we don’t have room for manoeuvre. I don’t expect we’d be lucky enough to get a mid season state of the nation address from the owner.

I'm reminded of that perennial statement with the Harriers - why always us?

Yes, Fylde had more cash - but in January last year other sides battling relegation reinforced with some ability. Who did we bring in? Bellis, Griffiths, and an ageing FL veteran who may have had his mind on other affairs...

It was the same over the summer - and the same in the summer before.

I've heard first hand from someone that Lane is willing to spend but Brown is unwilling. What is Holdsworth doing? There is no player who is irreplaceable. Is he not hunting around and suggesting players? The same for Brown's scout?

We've got about a week to go. But I would be fuming if it gets to the Sutton United game and we've not brought in at least one serious player. We are top of the league. We have a game in hand on some others. We should be going hell for leather at this golden opportunity, in a season where there's no stand-out side and we had a pretty rocky start.

Brown pretty much confirmed they are in for a striker. I suspect the Rushall game pushed that decision as it was yet another game where we had chances and didn’t take them. Alfreton Matine and Guiseley all over again.
But prior to that it’s common knowledge now that he turned down the chairman’s offer.
It’s more difficult to bring people in mid season. Bidding wars occur where as in the summer plenty are out of contract.

It's a big blow losing Beresford for such a injury and in training! Concerns me we seem to miss out to other teams,we're currently top and we really need to strengthen now. It's been a hard find for us to get a striker whilst AMS is here for a long while now....him and hemmo are good for this level but a injury will finish us off.

I don’t think there can be any argument that with Beresford still out injured and no clear timeline as to when he will be fit, we need to sign a striker and do it quickly. AMS is a legend, but at nearly 36 years of age, he cannot be expected to play his physical, industrious game at 100%, for 95 minutes, twice a week, as our fixture list currently demands.

I am less convinced on replacing Downing. I accept I missed the Darlo game and haven’t watched the highlights. But look at our record since he came back into the team after the KL drubbing in late November. We have won every game since (counting Fylde away as a win), except Rushall and Darlo. And surely the issue with those games is not that we have a fundamental issue in defence, but that we have failed to break those teams down and score. I think we have looked a better and stronger team over the last couple of months with Downing in it.

I haven’t got a problem with Downing. Yes, he’s got a mistake in him, but generally the defence have been solid.
The issue is the forward line. The can has been kicked down the road for 3 years now. RP failed to address it, now PB. Johnstone from Redditch has rocked up at Buxton. Was he ever a target? Were we even aware of him? I’d like to know where are we scouting for players? Sounds like it’s league clubs at youth level.
That long overdue fans forum would give us the chance to ask the question. However, the fans are not corporate enough it seems to warrant an audience.

Kobe on loan at Alfreton. I think it’s a positive move for him to test himself at this level. He didn’t even make the bench on Tuesday.

I agree. Normally a would expect a signing coming in….however I’m expecting nothing of the sort. Good job we have a wealth of strikers options to choose from .
