Surely we have to have at least 1 coming in to sanction Kobe leaving in the 'now' least populated squad position on the pitch?
Was anyone else "impressed" last Saturday by Warrington's Josh Amis. An awkward, bolshie no 9 who won plenty in the air and held the ball up well in a poor team.
Personally I think he could suit us down to the ground. Am I mad...................?

We’ll get an 18 year old from Blues in on a youth loan.auspice wrote: Fri Jan 24, 2025 6:08 pm Was anyone else "impressed" last Saturday by Warrington's Josh Amis. An awkward, bolshie no 9 who won plenty in the air and held the ball up well in a poor team.

That’s exactly what I said before. I worry about the so called scouting system. The head scout is a 1 man band? Holdsworth is involved? Where is he looking? Over the years we have signed players from Europe. Why is this avenue no longer viable?Sheffield Harrier wrote: Fri Jan 24, 2025 7:13 pmWe’ll get an 18 year old from Blues in on a youth loan.auspice wrote: Fri Jan 24, 2025 6:08 pm Was anyone else "impressed" last Saturday by Warrington's Josh Amis. More pertinent. Why are we constantly losing out on players? Transfer fees, salaries, agents fees? Or happy with what we’ve got.

That’s the question, why do we keep missing out
Mooney was on trial then signed for Chester and scored! Brown mentioned bringing ppl
In on trial to get a feel for them. A bit odd that
Beresford injury unfortunate but only striker we have is nearly 36 and age is catching up on him. We also have a large number of games coming up. This is very alarming

To be fair to PB, Mooney's scoring record is fairly unimpressive and if we'd have signed him I'd have been dubious.
I think PB's hit rate in terms of signings quality has been exemplary and I do think he's looking for a person at the right level. But it just seems imperative that we find them, as one injury and we're in deep trouble.
It's a real shame we couldn't have sign Alex Reid, as I feel he was exactly the type of player we're looking for.

Don’t forget Chester sold their leading scorer and best player last week for, as they stated themselves, ‘a very healthy fee’. I guess they were keen to strengthen quickly and were happy, and able to pay over the odds to land their man (and gazump ustonythescout wrote: Fri Jan 24, 2025 7:50 pm That’s the question, why do we keep missing out

Personally I’m not convinced Mooney was the right signing (isn’t he midfielder anyway?)…
Anyone have any suggestion of who we might bring in up front that could a) improve the squad and b) is cheap/free?…. buggered if I know
Perhaps a loan is the best option… Beresford (before his injuries) Reynolds, Maz, kellerman have all done well…
Perhaps if the club were a little more willing to rekindle relations with KHIST, we may be able to engineer a loan of some exciting young talent from KHIST's International Ambassador's Mainz side...

Good luck to Koby - if Billy Heath can turn him into a NLN standard player, all credit to both of them.
Alfreton are not in the best of form but even so I am slightly surprised that they have taken him on loan. Perhaps that emphasises the lack of striking talent available in the current market.

I wasn’t suggesting Mooney is the answer but he was allegedly on trial so we expressed interest and another one we’ve missed out on
Let’s see what occurs next week

I dont believe for one minute that PB doesn't want to bring in another striker, he isnt stupid. A lot of people making out its PBs choice not to bring one on. It could be financial constraints resulting in the lack of movement.
Another way of looking at it is with us being full-time its surely impractical for anyone making the move from Part-Time to Full-Time in January. So when you look at it that could easily be another big factor.
