Phil wrote: Thu Mar 05, 2026 9:19 am Not quite sure of the usage of that word Owen:

Phytologically is an adverb meaning in a manner relating to plants or from a botanical perspective, acting as a rare, formal synonym for "botanically". It derives from "phytology" (the study of plants) and has been in use since the 1840s. It relates to the scientific study of plant life.

Oxford English Dictionary

Definition: Relating to or in the manner of botany.
Usage: Rare; synonym for "botanically".
Root: Derived from phytology (botany) + -ically.
Context: Used to describe analysis or classification based on plant characteristics.
I'm just trying to subtly plant some seeds of positivity into your mind Phil.

It's interesting because this debate has raged, theoretically, for a long time and is only now actually playing out: "Is it worth sacrificing attractive football (and excitement) to get promoted?".

I dont think its the sacrificing of it debate. I have always been of the position of getting promoted over 'the product being an entertaining one' or 'plan b is to do plan a better' which was somehting that seemed to be push our way a few years ago. Eustace didnt get us promoted but we were entertained at times. So What, get promoted!

People seem to take issue in us grinding out ugly wins, look at the Scunny and Brackley games last season. Would Eustace side have done that? probably not, no. But we've gone from that where we had that bit of spark to no spark at all. Despite us grinding out results here and there, we seem to be grinding them out every week against very bad sides. We have nothing in the final third in terms of creativity. For context we have now gone from Hemmo and Maz to Seb Thompson being our best option for the wide roles they were in. I never thought I'd say this but Zac brown is another miss as added creativity though the middle.

In short, we are miles off any side who have gone up or have gone close. Are we lucky to be in the hunt for 3rd or is the league actually that bad?
if you couple goals with clean sheets you've a recipe for success

As a spectacle it was by far the worst game I’ve seen this season home or away - and I’ve been to most.

If that’s as bad as it gets all season, Alfreton on a Tuesday night (and we won) then I can live with that.

AM says they’re humans, it was boring and we need some new bodies. Right on all three.

Fundamentally we are an organised, pressing, hard working team. We are (mostly) hard to beat. However, even at our best it’s not champagne football unfortunately. But if AM can get us out of this league I’ll take it.

Did you miss Worksop away then? If it wasn't for the brawl at the end, I would have forgotten I ever went.

Come on Harry - you must have been there for the Nick Wright hat-trick in the dying minutes against Newport. An epic fist pumping day - my goodness what a performance that was - nowadays we don't even get close but I still go home and virtually all the away games in the hope - as they say it is the hope that kills you.

Interestingly Pershore, I remember us being ABSOLUTELY AWFUL in that game, completely outplayed by a Newport team (led by their talisman and ex-Harriers reject Sam Foley), all the way through until the 82nd minute when we were awarded a penalty for a clear Lee Vaughn dive. The last 15 or so minutes were epic though!

I think there's another way of looking at this... The league is pretty mediocre for sure, but I'm not sure it's "that bad". Instead I think that what AM is doing is highly effective. Grimly effective maybe, but effective. I'm just kind of relieved that I live in Scotland so don't have to watch the games in real time, all the way through!

I was Keith - and totally agree. I was one of the few who had always backed Nick Wright, so remember being utterly vindicated! I just object to the term old on all of our behalfs!

Strange what the memory does - I can clearly remember the final 15 minutes of that game but have obliterated the previous 75!

Reference Nick Wright, if I recall correctly he struggled for consistency. I think he started the next home game after the Newport match and was pretty poor. A pity as I liked him as a player and person.

The thing is we remember a game of many seasons ago and in more recent times for example last seasons home game against Hereford but how many games from this season will we remember I would suggest NONE even if we make the play-offs.

Remember the final 15 minutes eh - I remember the first 30 seconds as well stood on the North Stand as Newport scored their first - blood and sand I could not believe it. As for the last 15 minutes my word what a finish.
