While there is some lighting on the footpath either side of the bridge, there is no lighting on the bridge itself across the railway line. But more dangerously, where the steps go down towards Chester Road it is particularly dark and there are about a dozen very steep steps going down. What light there is from the lamp post 15 yards away on the slope down towards Chester Road, is obscured by fans already on the steps.
I would imagine at least 100 fans use this route and it is particularly concerning for the less mobile fans and there were a fair few on Saturday after the game.
I'm not a health and safety enthusiast, but I think there is a real risk of a nasty injury.
I know the club isn't directly responsible, but maybe it is something that either the club or KHIST could look into?

As its a council footpath I'd suggest, if you are concerned, that you contact WFDC?

I agree about the lighting, but I'm pretty sure the SVR 'own'/ are responsible for the bridge itself and the council for the path to and from it.
Personally, its been a constant source of amusement and amazement evaluating the build quality of the new houses and fencing next to the path as the football season (and building) has progressed,
The new bridge also has angled higher edges, I was told the argument being its a safety measure should someone want to hurl themselves off the bridge onto the tracks, though I'm more likely to think its to deter railway enthusiasts with cameras loitering about as they now can't easily take photos of the trains or rest equipment on the edge.
Like all public areas/subways in this town it needs a lick of paint to rid itself of graffiti.

As a kid, my grandma lived on Chester Road South, so I used that footbridge a lot, going to and from the footy, town etc.garthrockett wrote: Mon Dec 01, 2025 12:27 pm

The graffiti that was there in the 1980s taught me a lot of new words I didn’t know at the time.
Indeed, to this day, I can still recite a lewd version of a popular children’s nursery rhyme that I learnt word for word from the footbridge graffiti.
I hope the current graffiti is as educational for today’s children!

Well done for that. I think it's quite a few more than a hundred and I always feel sorry for the old boys with walking sticks that use the bridge and struggle to see when they're going when using the steps either end.

An update.
On 1st December I emailed the councillors for Aggborough and Spennell - John Aston, Helen Dyke and Peter Dyke.
I have not received a reply from any of them.

That is really poor. Perhaps follow up. I remember emailing ages ago (I think it was during one of the club's many flirtations with extinction) and I never got a reply.
Perhaps try calling. Their phone numbers are on WFDC's website for a reason - they're there to be used!

I often park on the Chester Road as its easier for me to have one in the Station, head back down the a449, and its free!
The lighting heading up, on and down the footbridge is, I'm sorry, dogshit.
Even if its some LED solar sensor lights are stuck up there its better than nothing. Twice now over the last 3/4 home games I've had to assist someone heading up and down the steps, and its been damp aswell being the time of year. I've no issue whatsoever with assisting people but surely everyone should be able to make use of it without any help as lighting is provided. What happens to these people if no one helps them? They risk it then what?
Perhaps someone can provide a link off the WFDC and post it on here so some of us can stick requests in. More the merrier in order to put pressure on them to act.
Them not responding to a safety concern is abhorrent

I have just been on the WFDC and seen then link below that takes you to Worcestershire County Council.
Those concerned I suggest you send in a request/issue.

Problem is they'll come out and look at it in daylight then say there's nothing wrong.
We had that for an alleyway by us and it took a lot of persuading, and videos, to convince them there wasn't enough lighting. All sorted now though.

These things to take time I agree. It does ask for photos etc on the portal, I'll take some when I am walking back to the motor after the game on Saturday.Phil wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 11:20 am Problem is they'll come out and look at it in daylight then say there's nothing wrong.
