  • preston n.e. (home ko 7:45pm) Worthington Cup 1st Rd

    The last time we played Preston N.E. was way back in 1994 in our famous FA Cup run.

    After the marvellous win at Birmingham City we then came up against John Beck's Preston in the 4th Rd.

    It was a hard fought game against a typical Beck side, a team that liked to play the long ball and go in hard.

    In the end we ran out winners with a goal from Super Delwyn Humphries and went on to meet West Ham in the 5th Rd losing this time to a goal from Lee Chapman.

    In last seasons Worthington Cup we played local rivals Walsall over two legs (only one leg this time).
    A goal from Stewart Hadley in front of 5,552 fans at The Bescot set us up nicely for the return leg but we went down 1-0 at Aggborough to a Darren Byfield goal in front of a crowd of 5,351.

    Hopefully the crowd tomorrow should be something similar but Preston have not had the start to the season they were looking for after reaching last season's play-offs.

    They lost the first game of the new season in a 5-0 drubbing at Gillingham and could only manage a 1-1 draw at home to Walsall last Saturday.

    They have just taken Kevin Gallacher on a month's loan in an effort to add fire power and also for insurance if Jonathan Macken is finally sold to Wolves.

    They have long term injuries to Ryan Kidd and Rob Edwards.
    Paul McKenna had a bruised ankle after Saturdays game and will not make a recovery in time for Tuesday.

    Anyway this should be the line-up for Preston tomorrow evening;

    Lucas, Alexander, Jackson, Murdock, Gregan, Anderson, Rankine, Macken, Gallacher, Healy, Cresswell, Cartwright, Moilanen, Keane, Basham, Abbot, Gunnlaugsson.

    After the Reds performance in front of goal on Saturday then I think we should see the return of Drewe Broughton as a matter of urgency.
    Stewart Hadley is obviously struggling so should make way for Drewe.

    I can't see many other changes, including Parfait.
    Even though he got himself sent off it's what most fans wanted, an uncompromising full back. So that's what they get.

    Here's the Red's;

    Brock, Murphy, Medou-Otye, Stamps, Clarkson, Sall, Shail, Hinton, Smith, Webb, Bird, Blake, Davies, Ayres, Faulds, Joy, Bennett, Shilton, Doyle, Foster, Murphy, Hadley, Broughton, Ducros, Corbett.
