City blast 6 past pathetic Harriers

The Harriers crashed to their worst ever result since joining the League 3 years ago.  6 - 1 against Hull City is something that we can't be proud of and it's a result that must leave our be-leaguered manager, Ian Britton, in No Mans Land.

As expected before the start of the game Brit announced a defensive line-up of 4-5-1 with John Williams playing as a lone striker up front.  There was also a recall to the team for Graham Ward and Dean Bennett.

Non firing strikers Bo Henriksen and Andy Bishop were relegated to the bench.

After a tentative start by both sides we saw the first of the action.   A shot from Dean Bennett didn't really trouble the City keeper, Musselwhite, who watched it go over his bar, rising all the way.

Two minutes later our hosts chalked the first one onto the board.   Justin Whittle swung in a low cross that fooled everyone and found its way to the unmarked Ben Burgess at the back post.  The striker fired straight at Stuart Brock who then dropped it and watched in agony as it slowly trickled over the line.

The Reds tightened up defensively after that error and started to control play a bit more.  The reward came on 21 minutes.

Danny Allsop tried to clear the ball to safety but only succeeded in hitting a team mates back.  The ball fell kindly for John Williams who sent a daisy cutter scudding along the ground and into the net for his first goal in Harriers colours.

We went on the offensive with Lloyd Dyer giving the City defenders plenty of problems with his lightning pace.  A smart interchange of passes between Dyer and Dean Bennett led to Deano trying his luck with a header as did Dyer a few minutes later.

Slowly Hull started to come back into the game and they gave warning of their intentions when Whittle forced Brockie into an excellent save from his header.  Two minutes later and they had taken the lead again.

A cross from Stuart Elliott was headed weakly away by Scott Stamps but it only fell into the path of Danny Allsopp who wasted no time in sending an unstoppable shot past Brock.

Just before halftime the Harriers were awarded a free kick in Danny Williams favourite position but he could only send his kick wide.

HT. 2 - 1

Within five minutes of the restart we thought we had gone 3-1 down when Allsopp beat Craig Hinton to the ball and fired past Brock but the goal was ruled out for an infringment on Craig.

Five minutes later and they scored a goal that did count.

They won a throw in and the ball was sent over for Andy Dawson who made no mistake with a powerful volley from 30yds out.

After that the Harriers defence just crumbled and City took over.   After mounting a barrage on the Harriers goal Brit decided to ring the changes and bought on Bo in exchange for Robert Betts.  Peter Taylor, the City manager, followed suit and swapped his team around by bringing in new signing Ryan France on for Jason Price and Andy Holt to replace Stuart Elliott.

It didn't take long for City to increase their lead, three times.

Burgess got his second and City's fourth on 81 minutes when he sent an un-challenged overhead kick past Brock.  Again he had no chance of saving the second such goal in a week.

Two minutes later and it was five when Holt ran down the left-hand side and crossed low across the face of the goal to France who, again un-challenged, stabbed the ball home from close range.

The sixth one went in on the stroke of full time.  City were awarded a free kick just outside the Harriers penalty area.  The ball was simply rolled along the ground to Stuart Green to curl the ball over the wall and past Brock to bring a miserable day for the Harriers and Ian Britton to an end.
