Reds lose in yellow card fest
The Harriers got their Christmas campaign off to the wrong kind of start today when they failed to pick up any points at York City. In a mediocre match low scoring City won with just the one goal from leading scorer Lee Bullock.
The Harriers manager, Jan Molby, elected to change the starting team slightly from last Saturdays with John Williams dropping to the bench and Sam Shilton returning to the side. There was no start for new boy Scott Rickards or even a place on the bench for the other recent signing, Lee Jenkins.
The first half was a sorry affair with Stuart Brock only being called into action once, gathering Jon Parkin's looping header from Darren Dunning's free kick. His City counterpart, Mark Ovendale, was not called into action at all.
With the crowd freezing their wotsits off in the cold wind the only person enjoying himself was the referee, Paul Taylor, who booked four players in the first half and then five more after the break.
HT. 0 - 0
The Harriers almost went ahead after 48 minutes when Craig Hinton's right-wing cross fooled Ovendale but Andy White could only head the ball into the side netting.
That near miss seemed to spur City into action and in a fifteen minute spell of attacking they took the lead in the 52nd minute. Edmondson's low cross from the right found Lee Nogan sliding in at the far post. The striker's effort was blocked by the outstretched hand of Brock, but Bullock was on hand to tap home the loose ball.
On the hour Jan decided it was time for a change and he made a triple substitution by taking off Sam Shilton, Steve Burton and Andy White and bringing on John Williams, Bo Henriksen and Scott Rickards in an effort to pep up our attack.
However it didn't work because we still failed to get any kind of shot on target until almost the final minute of the game. We did increase our tally of corners though with four in a row at one stage but as usual with us we didn't make the best use of them.
The one chance came from Matt Gadsby who managed to get a shot on target from the edge of the area but his powerful effort was deflected away to safety by Jon Parkin.
With this defeat we again failed to rise up the table and after a weekend when most other results went our way failed to take advantage. Defeat at Yeovil on Boxing Day must be avoided at all cost.
