We went to Iceland, sorry Blackpool, last Sunday thinking that this was a game that we could get something from and maybe draw a higher placed team in the next round. Sadly it wasn't just us frozen but the team were too and we failed to have a shot on target throughout the entire ninety minutes of the game. It wasn't that we didn't play well because we did but where it mattered was in front of goal and that is where we fell down.
Happily for us it's Blackpool that will face either Gillingham or Brackley Town in the 2nd rd so we haven't really missed out on anything apart from the chance to reach the 3rd round obviously.
Now we're out we can go to Halifax without anything to distract us from the task in hand. That task is to bring all three points home to climb back into third place above Chorley.
We have no injuries following the Cup game apart from the hernia problem with Jared Hodgkiss and we'll also have Ryan Croasdale (left) back from his one game suspension too. He was someone we missed last week with his Storer like ability to break up the oppositions play and give us that bite in midfield. Elton N'Gwatala also put a shift in, if a little rusty, and didn't show any concerns with his dislocated shoulder.
Halifax are in fifth place and one point behind us so they would go above us if the won but that isn't going to happen. They have a few injury problems with Matty Brown out all season so far with an ankle injury along with Scott McManus who also hasn't played this season but has just had an operation on his cruciate ligament. Centre half Danny Hone picked up a medial ligament injury against Gloucester a couple of games ago and he hasn't recovered either yet.
A few weeks ago they surprisingly sold winger Connor Hughes to Worcester City for a fee. All the more surprising because City have less money than us at their disposal.
This is going to be another tough game for us. For both sides. Especially after last Sundays downer but I think we have enough in our back pocket to get something from this game and we'll accept a share of the spoils.
